SSD's are just getting cheaper and cheaper. I feel that there's no right time to buy as the next day there'll be a better bargain!

    • +1

i remember buying my 128gb one for $125 and thinking it was awesome as it was $1/GB.. and that was only two years ago! :p

  • TA you love your Camels, dont you? :)

    • +3

As long as it saves you a dollar dy4me…

I think I will be getting an SSD soon for my laptop soon.
Replace with current 5400 rpm hard disk which sucks

    • +1

Best thing you can do, putting in a 64gb Crucial M4 some years ago totally revived my older laptop.

      • Did that to my wife's old dell xps m1530.
Threw on Windows 8 as well

Bang! Felt like a brand new computer!
Best investment, saved buying a new laptop!

works out to be $122 AUD Delivered

      AU$117 delivered with 28Degrees card.

Amazon ups its conversion rates by around 3% if you pay with standard CCs.

        • +11

please put that in the title. shouldn't just assume everyone has access to a 28 degrees card.

No assumption made. The title is in US dollars. You pay by whatever method you prefer.

        • +3

description: "Total price equates to around AU$117 delivered" could just add a 'with 28degrees card'.

description: "Total price equates to around AU$117 delivered" could just add a 'with 28degrees card'.

Clearly stated re 28Degrees in my previous posts, when the listings were in AU$:

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/145669
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/145832

Most OzBargainers purchasing from overseas should know this. It's been discussed over and over on numerous threads. And with all due respect, I'm not here to teach you how to convert from one currency to another at the best rate.

That's one reason I now post O/S deals in US$. Allows people to decide for themselves what the best payment method is for their particular situation. The other reason is I was being PM'd to post the 28Degrees rate as well as the non-28Degrees rate - just a little too much to ask I thought.

Another classic case of damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

Nothing personal Mr Plod - I value your input. Best regards. TA.

Also to note, you can use citibank visa debit card, which anyone over 18 can get (not a credit card)

        • +1

Yep, :) I don't have 28 deg card, but I have citibank debit for international purchases ;)

        • +7

it's all good my man, thanks for the post :)

        • +1

          Cheers.

        • thanks for that. i'm checking out citibank now, looks too good to be true i.e. no catch :p
gonna have to give em a call come monday methinks!

        • It's not too good to be true :) Many ozbargainers (including myself) have one and the exchange rates really are that good!

        • The only real downside is that the internet banking isn't that great.

        • Thanks, I wasn't eligible for a 28 deg card because I'm a student but went ahead and applied for citibank plus. Looks really good, I will use it for a while and might change banks if their app and support is as good as cba.

        • its not mate, cba app is much more better than citi. Citi has some weird stuff like OTI, and it doesnt show account numbers even after you login into your account.
Getting it started was a pain the ass, took like 6 phone calls.

        • +1

citibank visa debit charges I think 2.3% conversion since about last august if I remember correctly when I got the letter, not free anymore but still very good I use it primarily for overseas ATM withdrawals :)

        • Yeah citibank has the worst online banking system I'v ever used!

  • are you serious.. bought this last week and it added up to $135 AUD delivered.

    great deal..

    • +4

(Just remember Amazon will refund you if the price drops within 7 days )

      • +1

within 7 days of receiving your delivery, even.

But they will only do it once, if the price drops $10, and you claim that, then it drops another $20 you kick yourself for going early. But if it goes down $10, you don't claim, and it goes back up $10, again you will kick yourself for missing out.

It's a good policy, but doesn't guarantee you get the best price, there is still risk.

I'm still waiting for the 500G, however this is bargain.

    Cheers TA.

  • wonder if i should raid my current SD 256 Ultra Plus with this deal, or wait for a 500gb deal.

  • If I have my OS already installed on a mSATA in my laptop, can I re-install everything on a new SSD (extra empty bay)?

    • What I would do is:

      1. Install Parted Magic or Gparted on a USB with Unetbootin
      2. Install your new SSD in the main bay and move your old HDD to the extra bay
      3. Boot from parted magic and clone your HDD to your SSD
      4. Format your old HDD after you have checked you can boot from SSD as primary drive
      5. Profit?
      • Thanks for your reply voolish!
mSATA is already attached to a SSD. Still okay to do what you've said?

  • Price has increased to $104.99

  • "This SSD can store up to 256 GB1 of data and offers sequential read speeds of up to 530 megabytes per second (MB/s) and sequential write speeds of up to 445 MB/s2."

Slightly slower 'writes' than the Samsung 840 Pro 256GB …

But Thanks for the post TA.
