  • its 5400 to 7200 RPM and not 7200 RPM.

The difference being when it's in power saving mode it's at 5400rpm and when it's reading/writing data it's at 7200rpm I presume? (rather than just 7200rpm or zero)
it's a 7200rpm capable drive.. the fact it has power saving tech that slows the drive when you don't need the speed or the high pitched whine is not a negative thing in my opinion.

      • WD Caviar Green drives have fixed rotational speed, depending on the model (and whatever WD feels like).

Dynamic rotational speed is a complete furphy, intentionally implied by WD to confuse the speed issue. See the looong discussion in the WD10EADS deal.

It's safest to expect a 5400rpm drive and take that into consideration of your storage/performance requirements.

  • Add shipping: VIC - $14.63, NSW - $10.00

  • 8mb cache is a bit disappointing

  • IntelliPower (5400 to 7200 RPM)

What does that mean? Never seen that before…

    • Didn't you see the comment by scubacoles above?

It's a 5400rpm drive, not 5400-7200rpm, despite what some resellers say.

Good drive, quiet, and low power. Unless you are running a server in a shared environment you shouldn't get hung up on bullshit about latency, transfer speed and cache.
