Friend getting prepped for city2surf, so I got her this for her bday. Cheapest price found was at Bing Lee for $108. I went to OW Glebe for pricematch from $123 to $102.60, paid $99 with ING debit card, rest cash. Total = $97.60 (after 5% cash back).

Because of ozbargain, I never paid RRP again.

Does this work well as a sleep cycle alarm?

  • I like the concept but does anyone know if constant editing is required (i.e. going into the app and inputting your activity etc) for it to be anywhere near accurate?

    • It syncs by bluetooth with your smartphone very reliably from what I have experienced, the integration has improved ALOT compared to when it first came out.

Of course the only day activities it syncs are steps, distance and estimation of calories burned. You could input other activities (i.e. weight lifting/cycling) manually if you want.

    • I didn't find there was any need to edit anything in the app.

It automatically detects distance. You can double tap the Flex itself to turn sleep on and off (if you forget, you can edit it in the app). You can also add the food you eat into the app (but that took far too much effort and I lasted about three days on that one - their database isn't too great and I got sick of looking up bread).

However, it doesn't pick up stairs/inclines or, I believe, anything beyond walking/running (not so helpful at the gym). Depends what you want to use it for, I guess.

Mine is fairly accurate. I can walk around in circles and watch the numbers change on my phone (I may have done that when I had about 50 steps left to reach the 10 000 one day).

You can get other colour bands on Ebay for ~$12.

      • My main sporting activity is badminton/squash (i.e. racket sports) and I go for the occasional run once in a while. So I guess it depends how accurately it can track racket sports.

  • Wow these things never seem to get cheaper. My Fitbit one is still going strong 1.5 years on (2nd one after I lost the first and fitbit sent me a replacement). A combination of Fitbit + MyFitnessPal app are awesome for tracking activity and food log.

Forgive my ignorance, but does it monitor heart-rate (HR) and changes thereof (for stuff like racket sports, where 'steps taken' might not be that informative/representative)? Can you tell it to equate an increase in HR of 'x' over 'y' minutes' with a calorie loss of 'z' etc., i.e., input custom formulas for it to use subsequently when providing you with data? I'm sorry if this sort of stuff is 'common knowledge' in the field of these gadgets/monitors… I am completely ignorant about these things, and when I saw this post I initially assumed it was either a wearable blue-tooth speaker of some kind, or a water-proof radio, or both… lol
Curiously, there's nothing in the title or the description supplied by the OP that indicates what the item actually is

    • Sorry for the lack of info, I figured bing lee had a good description of it already. There's no in built heart monitor, just tracks activity (calories, steps etc.), sleep and syncs to your computer/smartphone.

It does not monitor heart rate. Its basically a glorified pedometer - measures steps and does lots of estimations

I bought this when it first came out. Used it for 6 months then I asked for my money back as it was giving me skin irritation. Fitbit refunded my money.

So from my 6 months experienced, the flex is a great tracker and the iOS app looks and works super well. The built in silent alarm is very handy when you don't want to wake your partner (sleeping next to you). Battery life would last me on average 5-7 days. It does say it's water resistant but avoid using it in the shower, as condensation gets between where the fitbit device sit (inside the wrist band).

If you do exercise a lot with it I recommend you getting a separate wristband (workout & daily wristband). The fitbit flex is great for runners or walkers. It counts your steps and like someone said before it's pretty much a glorified pedometer, synced via bluetooth (you can set in your iOS app for the flex to sync automatically, daily).

NOTE: Best Buy was selling the Fitbit Flex for $67.99usd. The deal has expired and they don't ship international.

From what I read whilst doing my research the flex can don't have movements as steps… Hence I bought a one. I also lost mine and had a replacement sent to me via Fitbit (A+ customer service). I have been using mine for almost a year and have found that it helps me work out how far I'm off and get me motivated to get out side more. No problems with stairs, it is not meant to count going down stairs.

  • Dear aims, please clarify: '… the flex can don't have movements as steps…'.
