USB 3 Speed on Macbook Pro Late 2012

Hey guys,

I got my WD My Passport Ultra (2TB) from a previous deal posted on here a few weeks ago. I have formatted it for MAC and seem to be getting lower speeds than expected?

I dl'd the Blackmagic speed test and am hitting around 90Mbps - I thought I should be getting alot more on USB 3?

Any ideas?!

Thanks

it's not really the usb 3.0 fault, that's generally the typical speed of a hard drive. Hard drives normally have speeds around 100mb/s ~
In other words the hard drive is the bottleneck and can't really take full advantage of usb 3.0. Still an improvement over usb 2.0 though

All USB HDD's are 5200RPM after all, unless you have a 7200RPM drive you won't go over 100mbs.

    From review:

Using our Consumer Testing Platform, we measured transfer speeds from the WD My Passport Ultra 1TB utilizing its USB 3.0 interface with IOMeter. The WD My Passport Ultra 1TB posted 100.69MB/s for sequential read and for 101.49MB/s sequential write. For large-block transfers, it measured 71.95MB/s for reads and 73.97MB/s for writes.

  • I get between 60-90 MBps on my WD mypassport USB 3.0 drive. My laptop is ACER Aspire V5-573 windows 8.1
if you are getting 90MBps then it seems normal.
But if it is 90Mbps(~11.25MBps) then it is not normal.
