700gr Easy Peel Mandarin Bags at Coles $1.29

40

I picked up several of these bags from Coles in Bentleigh this evening, they were $1.29 for 700gr bag which comes to $1.84 per Kg, about 9 good size Mandarins in each bag.

they are easy to peel, sweet and juicy, ideal for the kids lunchbox

I was told that they should be available in many Victorian stores, not sure if nationwide

  • got some as well in sydney.. dont like them much, hard skin and some of them look a bit old.

  • These were nice, fresh and very easy to peel

    • May be, but bagged mandarines I see are more often than not way past their prime, or have otherwise been poorly treated. I predict that some people will end up disappointed by what's on offer, regardless of the good price.

mandarins are generally pretty easy to peel

need to get me some easy peel bananas too, better than regular bananas!

  • "Easy peel" isn't a variety of mandarins to my knowledge, what type were they? I can't tell from your pic!

    • The ones I saw there on Saturday were Clementine

      • +2

Up until a few years ago, all the Clementines we saw here were grown in the U.S. - just like the Afourers. We grow them both here now. Along with Hicksons and Murcotts, they extend the season alot more sweetly than the old Ellendales used to.

Ok, I am now officially hungry…

        • Tas, I follow you around the forum just to absorb all this knowledge and trivia you always have to offer.

        • Flattered. Very. Thanks.

Yea verily and forsooth. In fora as in life. I do get around a bit.

  • They look like Coles brand " easy peel mandarins " , they have a DIsney Toy story sticker on each

  • I was going to buy a bag on Saturday, but every one I picked up had at least one rotten mandarin in it…

Who know how many months (or years) they have been sitting in storage…

    • yep.. my bag was not quite rotten, but clearly pretty old. not a fan of these types of mandarins. much better loose as they are larger, fresher and have a better flavour.

    • The sight - and smell - of that greenish mould you get on citrus, gives me the willies.
