Gyros / Souvlaki / Yeeros / Yiros / Greek Kebabs/Sanwhiches in Sydney?

Anyone know any place in Sydney that have these? I really miss them as they were common street food back when I used to live in Paris.

    • So far … but I will definitely go there one day.

  • Marrickville is the place to go for yeeros, apparently.

I haven't had one since I was a kid! But the reviews of that place look pretty promising.

    • Another one not too close to me, but since I don't have the choice so it's added to my list.

      • Where abouts in Sydney are you, Yanoflies? North, South, East, West?

        • Western Sydney!

  • back when I used to live in Paris

    Mail order opportunity?

  • I presume you have tried the local version made with Lebanese flat bread instead of a pita?
I like 5 star near the yha at central. There is a kebab/pizza place in Liverpool st that is pretty good too, across from world square.

    • I've tried but it's just not the same.

  • I suppose you're talking about the real Greek style gyros, where they use the thick "puffy" flatbread, skewered charcoal grilled chunks of meat and also put hot chips into the roll?

I haven't come across that style in Sydney yet. The've all been the Lebanese/Turkish versions of kebabs so far.

  • Go to Auburn

    • None there.

  • This style seems to be more common in Melbourne; as far as I can tell the Sydney equivalent uses Lebanese bread, and no delicious garlic sauce. I am hoping someone can recommend something in Sydney too. I like Stalactites in Melbourne CBD… http://www.stalactites.com.au/

  • Oh I had no idea this thick puffy flatbread, skewered meat and chips in the roll was a style. A "souvlaki bar" has opened near me (Capalaba, Brisbane) that sells these, and I just thought they'd made them up themselves. Had no idea it was a thing.

The charcoal cooked bread in these things is incredible. So soft, warm and comforting.

New gyro/souvlaki bar opening in Sylvania on Princed Hwy this Friday 13th.
Gyros and "kebabs" are very different. Gyros use pork, kebabs do not. Puffy bread vs flat bread. Greek vs Turkish.
