clothes? I hear the trends are ahead in American, and I imagine NYC would have the best stuff.
I've heard booze is much cheaper too, I'd bring some spirits back.

As far as technology and speciality items go, I'd say if you don't know that you definitely want it then you don't need it. (i.e. Google Glass! That's only purchasable in America.)

    • oh yeah google glass, totally forgot about that.

    • Agree with the clothes and shoes. So much cheaper than Australia and better selection too.

  • An "I <3 NY" t-shirt.

A few brands seem a lot cheaper over there, just depends on what you like. Skechers is one that pops to mind for me. Maybe look up a few online places for comparisons so you know what to look for.

As an alternative, take the bus to NJ just across Hudson River. NJ has no state tax on clothes, shoes, sunnies, bags and few other items. Definitely cheaper than NYC. There are also bus tours from NYC that take you to NJ to large shopping outlets. Travel light going there and max out your 40kg limit on the return trip.

  • G.H. Bass & Co. - excellent shoes, prices good at outlets.

Izod - one of my favourites for clothing, again good pricing at outlets.

If they're still doing it, both of those above belong to the same company so join their rewards club before buying. On your receipt (once you're a member) they did used to put a discount voucher for shopping at the other shop (ie if you shop at Bass, you get a discount at Izod). What I did was buy a few things at Bass, then went to Izod & bought a few things, then back to Bass, then back to Izod again. Got discount vouchers each time. Could have kept going if I hadn't already bought a mountain of other stuff!

  • A hot pretzel covered in salt around Times Square/41st Street.

I used to buy them all the time :-)

  • Yankees merchandise

  • This web site extract covers it well
    Century 21
"New York's Best Kept Secret" is hardly a secret — you'll have to battle the throngs of "in the know" shoppers, but you won't mind when you discover the deep discounts available as you make your way through the maze of offerings at this department store. Early morning or mid-afternoon tend to be calmer. In addition to their original location, Century 21 now has locations near Lincoln Center, in Brooklyn and in Queens.

Address: 22 Cortlandt St., between Church St. and Broadway
    Phone: 212-227-9092
Subway: E to World Trade Center; 2/3 to Park Place; N/W to City Hall

  • Hey guys I'm also going to NY for a couple days on my trip to Canada. I'm also going to Europe (Venice, Rome and vienna for a week.)

I was wondering about buying a nice wallet (Prada, Versace, LV), would it be cheaper in NY or from the European countries?

I plan to go to a few shopping spots at NY for sneakers, tees etc as I assume they'd have quite good prices on those things.

Also, are G Shock watches cheap in NY?

    Thanks for any replies!!
