Voted neg in line with the OzB voting guidelines - "Major issues with retailer".

This is a terrible shop to deal with. Their in-store staff were extremely rude.

In 2011 I was visiting Sydney and came across their physical store by accident for the first time.

I spent about 15 minutes looking for accessories to buy for an upcoming trip. I know it was about 15 minutes as I was with friends who were having a drink nearby, so I couldn't spend lots of time browsing.

I asked a lady how much a specific camera cost. She looked it up and said it wasn't available, so I continued looking around. I found a monopod that I was interested in. I asked how much it cost, then left as I had to get back to my friends.

The next day I decided to buy it so I went back to the store. I wanted to get a ball head for it so I spent some time looking at the heads on display.

I did not take up staff time - they were doing their own thing.

After about ten minutes, the sales assistant rudely asked me if I was interested in purchasing anything, and that they were not there "for my entertainment". He claimed the bosses said I've been to the store many times and spent a lot of time in the store without buying anything.

That was the SECOND time I have ever set foot in the store.

I gladly left and made my purchases online from another store instead.

Evidently the business owners know nothing about customer service. With such a poor attitude towards walk-in customers, I have avoided them at all costs for both work and personal purchases.

      Wow!
Clearly, even after 3 years, your experience had such a profound negative impact on yourself that you can clearly recall every minute detail of both of your visits to the store. For that I apologise, but, like people, businesses change over time, and I'm sure that if you visited us again you will find that, like yourself, we have grown & changed in the time that we have been apart.

I wrote an email to complain (nothing came out of it really), so I just searched my sent items and found all the details right there.

Looks like nothing has changed - I see on productreview.com.au that someone else posted about exactly the same thing in April 2014.

If you didn't change anything in three years, why would anyone believe you've suddenly changed everything in two months?

The first lady I dealt with about the camera was very nice and pleasant. She wasn't present the next day. There were three men from memory - they were the ones with the poor attitude.

        • -1

As I said, I apologise for your experience.

As you are most likely aware, people are far quicker to complain than they are to praise. For every negative comment that a business gets online these days, there are over a hundred customers with positive outcomes who don't post comments online.

        • +1

Does that excuse poor customer service? "It's ok, we can treat a few walk-in customers badly because we ship other orders quickly"?

In what plausible scenario does it make sense to ask a customer to leave because he spent fifteen minutes browsing on one day, and ten minutes the next, without taking up staff time?

It looks like it's still going on too, as I mentioned in my earlier post.

Not only in 2014, but 2013 as well:
          http://www.productreview.com.au/r/dirt-cheap-cameras/378991.…

          And 2012:
          http://www.productreview.com.au/r/dirt-cheap-cameras/345399.…
          http://www.productreview.com.au/r/dirt-cheap-cameras/268501.…

So there is a long history of poor attitude by your staff. Pity.

The only WOW here is your response. That was terrible. Extremely sarcastic. I don't think your store has changed as much as you think it is has.

        • -1

Sorry, no sarcasm involved at all. You just read the sarcasm in to it.
Thank's for neging a genuine apology.

        • Yes, I'm sure this is a genuine apology:

Clearly, even after 3 years, your experience had such a profound negative impact on yourself that you can clearly recall every minute detail of both of your visits to the store.

          Followed by:

          For that I apologise

So you never even apologised for the incident, rather, the "profound negative impact" it supposedly had.

        • That is not correct. If you read my post, you will note that I have apologised for both the experience and the negative impact.
Unfortunately you chose to read it differently.

    Hi,

$24.90 for shipping, is this correct?

    • -3

That's correct. Did you see the dimensions of the bag?
Unfortunately, despite extensive research, we have been unable to locate a postage or courier service that will ship our items for free.
You can always pick up if you are in Sydney.

        Dirt cheap cameras - Hell-Expensive postage…

        • -3

          Not at all.
The bag dimensions are 46 x 35 x 24 cm. The weight is 1.25 kg.
Australia Post has a postage calculator on their website. Maybe you missed it?
Add $2.95 for signature on delivery & that's what it costs us to send a parcel these days.

        • +1

A quick search and fastway do those dimensions for $11-14. Smartsend $18. E-go $13. Maybe you missed it, despite your extensive research?

      • More sarcasm? I'm not sure you should be working in customer service.

        • -3

If you are refering to "Australia Post has a postage calculator on their website. Maybe you missed it?", that was indeed sarcasm.

      • +1

Did you see the dimensions of the bag?

yes, I know how big the bag is and I know that when it's shipped it is flattened out. The picture and dimensions you've listed are for when it's used not shipped.

courier service that will ship our items for free.

no need to be a smarty bum, it's exceptionally high and it's 50% of the cost of the item. It warrants the question.

Other companies manage to work it out, I've had backpacks shipped before and it was $10.

Put it this way - you didn't (originally) include shipping in the title, why?, because it bothered you too.

  • +3

Too much mistakes, op. Dont think you are welcomed in this forum.

  • +3

Expensive shipping + poor retailer attitude = no deal.

  • +1

Who else is reminded of Quilts Direct whenever potential customers are feeling belittled? Sarcasm will get you nowhere.

    • +2

Wow, I missed that whole episode. That is definitely not a pleasant company to deal with. Some businesses really need lessons in PR and how to respond to comments or complaints, especially in public!

      • +1

Business must be good if they can belittle customers. Not like they have any overseas competition or anything…
I spend a lot on camera gear and will only shop at certain local stores for two reasons 1) the price is competitive and 2) they give good customer service! Nothing worse than going in to a store and being treated like a leper…
