Any good tips for NYC people can share…places to stay, things to do, good tours?

Katz Deli. So damn delicious.
Walk the High Line. Nope, not a Johnny Cash song, a park built on an abandoned overhead railway line. Really.
Ride the subway. Cheap, fast and these days, safe.
Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
Visit the NY City Library. Amazing building.
Staten Island Ferry. Great views, and it's FREE!
Take a look at the Forbes Museum on Fifth Ave. One's man's determination to never grow up!
If you are going to take in a Broadway show, look for cheaper tickets at Half Tix, or line up for the lottery at various shows. Look on Google to see whether the show you want to see offers that.Having stayed mid town in Manhattan and found the rooms small and the prices big last visit we stayed in Long Island City. We'd definitely stay in LIC next time - we stayed at the Verve Hotel - cheaper than Manhattan and bigger rooms - great staff - few minutes walk to 2 subway lines and 10 mins ride to Manhattan - well worth it - Have a look at it on Tripadvisor.
