COles Myer Gift Cards will work at OW as well. Dont buy store specific, you can get discounted Coles Myer Gift card via paying throu ING CARD or buy from RACV/unions membership card.

  • Can I ask a broader question - do people give gifts to their children's teachers?
I certainly don't recall doing this when I was a kid but my wife seems to think its pretty standard.
Maybe for an exceptional teacher who goes above and beyond…?
And what about others - do you give your postie a Christmas gift or your hairdresser?
Are we effectively turning these into tipped positions?

    • With "classroom parents" taking a bigger role in coordinating social activities etc, it is bound to happen that someone will suggest everyone chip in for a gift. Once a suggestion is made, it feels awkward to say no - every single year now, we have chipped in for a present for a teacher.

    • No, we don't. But many parents at my kids' school do. And I can't tell if the teachers treat my kids or me any differently. But I did chip in a few times for baby gifts for teachers about to go on maternity leave / spouse had a new baby.
Few years ago, with my kids' year group (about 50 kids) all chipped in to buy a Coffee pod coffee machine for the staff room. All the teachers were really happy, some of them actually said being able to have a nice cup of coffee during break is far better than any wine/tie/scented candles…Xmas 'crap' they normally received. (The teachers buy their own pods)

    • I just know how many hours my kids teachers put in and how much they support kids. I like to show appreciation.

  • The fastest and most efficient way for me is to use ing paywave for its 5% cashback.

  • A westfield or myer gift card would be nice. I've received plenty of fancy books and stationary from parents and students, however I really don't need them!

I am a teacher and I don't expect any gifts. Gifts are much appreciated, but when it comes down to it, I don't teach for the presents. They aren't the norm in the school I teach at, but there are some people that go to the effort. What I have especially appreciated is the odd thank you card with a thoughtful message.

I am not into 'stuff' so I would prefer not to be given mugs etc and I don't drink, although my drinking friends are always thrilled if I get wine. I would rather than my students and their parents don't feel pressured at the end of the year to buy me something.

I speak only for myself though!
