I find these guys are way over priced (over $6 for a Banh Mi is a total rip off) and non-authetic street food. They target people who don't know what REAL Vietnamese street food is like and don't know any better.
I actually do have to agree, but i find it as a great way to introduce my friends to Vietnamese food. For example the bread rolls you mentioned I've grown up with more traditional rolls from a Vietnamese bakery whereas the roll'd are more western orientated version of Vietnamese food, that is becoming more common with up-scale/modern Vietnamese restaurants and chains. But free food is free food so im not complaining

You are obviously stating the obvious facts but did you stop and think why this is the case? Do you see the traditional pho shops opening up in the cbd or the yuppy areas? No, because it's the wrong market and the expenses are too high for them to charge the same cost.
I am not sure why you even commented, when it was free pho anyways.
The fear for independent businesses is that a viable field of employment for many Vietnamese won't exist anymore, and cost of ingredients will increase.
