Just bought a Xbox 360 for the little boy - thought to get an extra Xbox wireless controller so we could play games together.
Any good games you know for two players and is kids friendly ie not too violent.
Had Plant vs Zombies - Garden Warfare and Minecraft, but no two players option with two controllers.

Agree with all the Lego games. I have 2 girls and they love the Lego Harry Potter series. Trying to get them playing the Star Wars ones but not successful so far :) Not too violent — just bricks fall into pieces. Most don't have "game over" just respawn at the place where your mini-figure breaks apart.
You can play Minecraft two players as long as you have the hdmi cable capability on the back of the Xbox 360 to the tv which has to be hd capable. Create two profiles one for u and one for your son.My kids play minecraft together all the time the game splits the screen into two, vetically or horizontally. You have to fiddle a bit with settings to hdmi as well as press start on second controller once game starts to join second player.

Don't forget the other Viva Pinata games that have 100+ hours worth of GARDEN MANAGING MANIA! Okay so it's not that much mania. It's still cool though. Puns galore. I had loads of fun with it and my teen years. The second one even has (working) co-op gardening.
It's the best game Rareware made with Microsoft before all the colour got sucked out of their logo and their lives.
Yeah viva pinata trouble in paradise, its like a farming/pet game. Garden in paradise is the second one and the better one.
Sonic all stars racing transformed is a great Mario kart clone, i actually enjoy it more than the newmmario kart on the wiiu.
Lego games are good.
Rayman legends (includes the first origins game in it) is a good Mario clone, but does get pretty hard later on
These are all co op games.
As for your query about the controllers. U can get wireless dsongles off eBay for cheap, don't think Microsoft make official ones anymore. Noooo idea I'd they will work with windows rt though, I'd Google that before buying.
