Port Stephens. Best route from Sydney? What to do? Must see?

Hey all,

Heading to Port Stephens for the long weekend.

Travelling there by car from Sydney. Does anyone have any recommendations for a route to take? Would prefer a scenic route, and I don't mind if it adds an hour or two to the trip. I will probably never make the drive again.

Also, ay recommendations for MUST see or do's in Port Stephens? We're renting a place in Nelsons Bay.
