Myer Staff Discount and Gift Card Question

Hey guys

Just wondering, if a Myer staff wanted to make a purchase and use their staff discount card to pay for the goods.

Are they able to pay with gift cards that they may have received?

Cheers!

Reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of buying some Myer Gift Cards with the Big W 10% discount sale, then wait for Myer to have a public sale on MacBooks…combine my friends staff discount card, myer public sale discount and then use the 10% discounted gift cards from Big W to pay for them (potentially 30% off [10% off macbooks myer public sale, 10% staff discount, 10% discount on gift card purchased from big w])

Cheers guys!

You can and if you are traveling os you can claim back the GST.

The gift card discount will not reduce the GST refund, whereas the other discounts will, as for GST refund the price paid is calculated after all discounts except the giftcards which are seen as cash/credit.

Are you answering a different question?

To simplify for those who need it.

Using AND implies a comma beforehand

        YOU CAN,

take a breath/pause then read on

So I gave the answer as asked and then gave some extra info

hope that helps you and the other two… :)

If your friend works for Myer why not just them? I'm confused

Probably. But it won't be 30% off, close to it though

      e.g. price = $1000
      10% sale
      $900
      10% staff discount
      $810
Pay by gift cards which were 10%
      $729
10% GST refund if you do travel with in the next 60 days
      $662.73

33.7% off if you manage all of it
27.1% if you don't get TRS

Actually the GST refund would be $73.28

Making the total amount paid if getting the refund as $655.72

The there is no way that the TRS would know that the giftcards used were sold at a discount. For them the gift cards are treated as cash/credit, its just another form of payment.

That means the GST would be calculated on the $810 = (810/11%) = around 73.28

Not much different but this is ozbargain where a free pencil can get over 100 votes!!

  • Wow, thanks heaps for all your help guys.
    Really appreciate!!!

If you intend to use your friends discount card be aware that they may lose their job if caught. They can only allow their immediate family members who live with them to use their discount card. Are you willing to risk your friend's job for an extra 10% off
