USB 3.0 sticks

USB 3.0 sticks. Where can I find a good bargain? I don't want drives to carry around my whole computer, just ones to quickly store and transfer a few files or, at max, store a movie or two to watch offline.

  • The sandisk extreme ones are good. A little flimsy, but fast. Try MSY. ie: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/129505 (expired)

    • make sure they're USB 3.0

      Theres a lot of dodgy USB 2.0 sticks mixed in with the USB 3.0 for the same price.

      8gb 6-8$, 16gb 15-20$

      Most stores like Officeworks/JB hif, havey norman even have bargain bin with USB sticks

  • If you're not going to be storing/transferring much does it really matter if you get USB 3.0? You could get 8GB USB 2.0 SanDisk Cruzer from Officeworks for $6.97. If you really want to have USB 3.0 you can get USB3.0 Kingston DataTraveler G4 8GB from MSY for $7.

  • I can highly recommend two brands of USB 3.0 sticks:
    * SanDisk Extreme
    * Silicon Power Blaze B30
    SanDisk Extreme is a little bit faster, but physically larger and more expensive. For some reason Silicon Power (or SP) has very aggressive pricing in Aus, much better than in Europe and US. As an example SP Blaze B30 64GB (this is probably larger capacity than what you want) is $44 on eBay with free shipping. I even wanted to list it as a bargain, but I am too lazy :)

    If you want something amazingly cute and very, very small yet solid have a look at Silicon Power Jewel J10. You did not mention capacity, but search on eBay for the best deal. BTW, even if you plan to use the stick mostly on USB2, please be aware that good modern USB3.0 flash drives offer considerable speed improvement also when plugged into USB2 ports.

  • Silicon Power Blaze B30 - very fast read/write rate (compare to other entry level/budget usb3)
    Get from amazon under US$20 delivered for 32gb

    • Thanks. Just ordered this. Will report if any problems, but not expected. My local HN has boxes of USB 2.0 sticks for more than this.
