    As direct as flying via Fiji to the US is.
    I would personally avoid it.
    I've done it once via Nadi and a number of times direct. I can't emphasise how much of a difference a direct flight makes.
    On the way back I had a 10 hour layover in Nadi. There's nothing there so I booked a hotel room day rate and slept.

  Perhaps it is a 10 hour layover in Nadi fro flights into Melbourne?

  If you can out up with the disinterested flight crew the price is a bargain

    It was Brisbane. This was years ago before Virgin so the average USA flight was $3000 return

        There was an embargo which meant only 2 airlines could fly direct. It sucked.

  There are no flights for $1,034 in 2014 (at least none left if there actually were any).

  Best outbound is $720 (a lot of dates) and cheapest inbound is $650 (except one single flight on 24 Oct which is $527). But you're looking at $1,370, not $1,034.

  I would never fly with this mob again. Our last experience was a never-ending disaster. From cancelled flights (resulting in us losing a night accommodation and an unplanned night in New Zealand), to them failing to tell their own staff the new departure time for our rescheduled flight, to armrests wrapped in duct tape, and arriving at our gate (over 1.5 days late) only to be told that we could not get off the plane until they took us to another gate. Read the reviews under their former name (Air Pacific).

  Even if these flights were $1 I would never fly with these incompetents again.
