    Good deal! :)

Cheers mate! downloading in my origin client @ 11.8mb/sec constant :)

    • +1

Tried to play the game twice now through origin, when I join a server from the web browser I get "BF3 has stopped working" Windows message :(

Will try and restart hope that fixes it

      • +1

Unfortunately, that's a common problem - I have it too. There's not a lot of consensus on why it happens either. Some say it's a Punkbuster problem, others blame Origin servers or corrupt files.

Let me know if you figure out the cause?

        • Heaps of people get this issue. They made it free to try & sucker people into paying for the DLC.

Someone will do it, there's always a small percentage of people who just can't help them selves :)

      • +7

Welcome to the Battlefield…..of problems lol

      • +4

Don't worry, the game has been out for 3 years and still is lettered with bugs.

I wouldn't expect anything less from the filth of EA and DICE.

    • +1

What's with Origin download speeds? I usually get 5MB/s which I didn't think was possible with 24mbps connection…

edit: I think I found the answer to my question. Apparently Origin downloads compressed files but reports the download speed as data rate after decompression.

      • I'm using DU Meter to see the speed,

      • Yeah their download speeds are usually so crap they need to play around with fudged download rates to make them look decent…

        • I'm on NBN Mate :) 100mbit so was great to see it zoom zoom down :)

Also I fixed the issue by repairing the game and doing a restart :)

        • Give it time & the game will go put put bang :D

  • i hope its not only singleplayer.

    • +5

      It's the full game.

      • "full game" the idea is to try to get people to buy premium or the DLCs… none the less its a good thing for free indeed! still a lot of people playing online these days…

  • +1

19.1GB space required. might takes me forever to download…

    • +2

then i would advise you to steer clear of the 50GB d/l for Titanfall

      • +1

        50GB!!!!!!!

  • Got it, thanks!

    • +5

Um BF3 is much better than BF4

      • +3

Just because it's better than something else doesn't mean it's actually good.

        • +1

But just for the record, BF3 is awesome :)

        • +6

          free = good
          BF3 = free
          BF3 = good
Turns out I was wrong, man did that neg to my comment shake up my view on the world, I see it so clearly now /sarcasm. It was a lighthearted statement and is correct despite the neg.

        • +6

So something free means it's good?

Good news! I'll make sure I get the best of the free sexually transmitted diseases.

        • lol harsh, I didn't even neg anyone :(

I was just expressing that I thought BF3 is awesome haha.

        • +1

          Fixed :)
I don't agree with you, but it's your opinion.

        • You get free sex for diseased people/animals …… I'm still undecided if that's good or not.

      • It makes me happy that you say this. Never got around to playing BF4, thought it looked amazing.

        • BF4 is better than BF3. BF3 for free is still pretty good.

  • +1

There is always that grain of salt to accompany the sweet, and it's most likely that microtransactions are now a thing with BF4 - Anyone still playing this game anymore?

    • This is not relevant for BF3.

Sad to see this is the way they're trying to go for BF4. However, anyone that has played the game will know that battlepacks are worthless and won't pay for the rubbish. And yes, I'm still playing. They're getting there I think… but that's a discussion for elsewhere.

    • +10

      Still playing Bad Company 2

  • 300.9Kb/sec. this will go for 20 hours…

  • +5

    mmmmm

free game……..but have to install origin………..

  • SO is it free to "PLAY" till 4th june?
or is it offered till 4 of june?

    • +2

Offered. It's free to add to your Origin account until 4th of June. Once you've added it, it's yours to keep forever!

    • +2

      From here

How long will I own the game?
Once you’ve claimed your game, it’s yours to keep!

    • +1

ok, I though it was like one of those steam, weekend things.
      Thanks

  • +7

    Reminder:
Plants Vs. Zombies GOTY also free.

  • thanks op

  • +3

paid 10$ for it few months ago….

  • What's the server situation like? I used to be really into BF3 but I stopped playing for a while and didn't buy any DLC. When I came back to it, there were almost no servers that weren't running DLC maps = essentially would have had to buy the DLC to keep playing. The main problem is that you can't just run your own server, you have to pay and rent one to get your own. Swore off the Battlefield franchise after that…

    • +1

The situation with BF3 DLC/Premium is that there is almost no-one playing those Premium map servers in Australia/NZ. And it's been ages since those Premium/DLC servers were actively populated in BF3.

Conclusion: this is a great deal. There are a good number of populated vanilla BF3 servers in Australia.

It's a shame because some of the BF3 Premium maps were really good, and 'Premium' amounts to 2/3rds of the map content for BF3. However Australia has never had a large enough playing population to support extra paid for Battlefield map packs beyond a few months of busy activity.

  • -4

    No steam, no buy

    • +2

is it still considered buying when you don't pay for it?…. hehe

    • +3

I'm a steam user since the start and was a bit hesitant to use Origin in the beginning but after you get used to it its fine.

      • +3

Origin downloads and updates poo all over Steam. But in terms of sales, catalogue and community of course Steam is better. I use both and was hesitant, like Lucas, but it's actually pretty good.

        • How are the downloads/updates better??

        • Little to no server congestion. Unlike every Steam sale where downloads crawl. Updates is the same with so many people updating at the same time with common games. I presume there's just more or higher bandwidth Origin servers.

        • Steam is always fast for me and usually free for since we are with internode.

    • -2

Steam is like Vinnie's, it's where all the poor people who can't afford real games shop.

  • +3

    DAMN IT!
I PAID $5 for this in the humble bundle a few months ago!

  • Anyone know if this can be purchased via a Smartphone? Damn work keeping me away from PC

    • +1

I think it expires on the 4h?

    • +1

yes you can, i did it on my phone

  • say I have a "downloaded" version that I tried (and didnt like) but want to use this and try online, is it the same and just remove the reload or do I have to download another copy?

    • +3

Best to uninstall previous installation, delete folder tree then install Origin (if not already) then install via origin.

  • Does it require an active Internet connection to play single player?
(Tried DeadSpace and couldn't play without it)

    • +1

The game is run in the web browser, online.

Yes you need an internet connection to play SP..

That was a great idea DICE!

      • +4

Because you have to disconnect your dialup connection when mum wants to make a phone call?

        • lol the good old days - or else it would disconnect for you if you forgot to turn off call waiting!

  • +1

    Great Game!

  • cant believe all these origin freebies….

  • Last time I utilised a 'free games on origin' deal, my account was 'hacked by russians' and EA said I was not the account owner despite being able to sign in to it on my 360.

    • I don't think that had any thing to do with the 'free games on origin'. You obviously went through a third party scammer site.

      • Obviously.

        http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=998692bvi….

3 weeks after that, I lost access to my account permanently.

        • I think you must have fallen for a phishing email or had a trojan on your computer. As redeeming a game for free directly on the Origin store does not get an account hacked.

        • If you do a google search of "origin accounts hacked december 2012" you'll see quite a lot of people lost their accounts and EA denied it was the result of hacking.

Either way, I've got a new account that I won't be using to 'buy' any old free PC games off Origin.

        • +3

My account was hacked as well, only thing I could think of that would've leaked my details was a popular plugin I used for Firefox and Battle Log.
Was a massive pain in the ass to get my account back, and when I did some russian noob had ruined my stats lol

        • +1

i got my p/w reset ss well, was prob also a russian dude, but my stats are FKKED anyway so they would have done me a favour and improved my stats for me, no matter how crap players they were!!!

        • +2

Here too: Russian's hacked me for FIFA.

Took about 1 hour of phone call to a US number to sort it out: they weren't surprised. Fortunately I had some email receipts of game purchases as proof of my ownership.

This was a hack - no phishing etc. Free origins games are great!

  • What's the server situation like with BF3 now? A lot of disgruntled BF4 players going back to it? Is Metro 64P 1000 Tickets still the most popular? I haven't played in a year but I did get up to level 57.

  • +2

    Operation Locker > Metro.

  • Nearly enough to make me get Origin… nearly.

  • +1

Good Guy Origin now giving games away :D good new for everyone!

  • +1

BF3 is for noobs BF2 is where it's at

    • CS 1.6 > your idea of twitch-reflexes.

      • 1.4 > 1.6

        • Delta Force on dial-up > 1.4

        • quake 2 > delta force

  • +1

There's been some nice freebies on Origin. I wonder what Admiral Akbar would have to say about it.

  • yay, my bf3 is downloading now, cant wait….. once i got my origin p/w reset (painful process, took all day), i should be in action. just to clarify, this is the full bf3 for pc game, right?

  • +1

    Cant access Origin.com

  • +1

free = more players joining in, thank you Origin now we may quit stupid BF 4

  • +3

How many hackers are going to be flooding servers now?

  • +3

This is a good deal, for my new gaming laptop. OMG I am just starting where I left off with PC gaming, halfway through Bioshock 1. And I already bought Titanfall. Now BF3 for free…. aaaahhhh there goes my social life.

  • +3

Yeah I got this during the humble bundle. Didn't even install it lol

  • Free is free I guess, I have BF4 I think I played it for 4 days on release then got bored with it.

  • +3

Was playing BF3 today and someone wrote in the chat 'I just got this today' and I replied 'I got my copy thanks to OzBargain' and the guy said 'Hi5 OzBargain buddies' hahahaha

  • You know PC gaming is dead when companies are giving away 3 year old games for free.

    • That just means it's doing great. Just look at how cheap games are on PC compared to console. Also, you can connect a joypad and cut 90% of the power to you PC to use it as a console, you can't turn a console into a PC :)

    • IMO your assessment is pretty poor. I think their business model takes into account DLC for the game they're giving free, people then buying BF4 or BFHardline as a result of playing the free game.

Based on your logic Steam giving away TF2 for free is an indicator that the game and PC gaming is dead. If you think that then something dead and it ain't either of them.

      • Bad analogy. TF2 is over twice as old as BF3, and it's multi-player only. MP games are very often given away for free - with single player campaign-based games, it's extremely rare. I don't play MP myself.

    • league of legends is free, yet it is apparently very popular and very profitable via micro transactions.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/League_of_Legends

$1 mil prize money and a bunch of 12 year old Asians won

Last year at EB expo it was televised, streamed from US TV which was live from some stadium the size of our entertainment center, place was packed with nerds.

For BF3 to continue to generate profit there is no other viable option from a business point of view, either let it die or F2P
