Good post, but weird price history on this app:
http://appshopper.com/music/rock-prodigyFrom free to $60+ and all points in between.
Note IAP around $5 per song, but looks like a fair bit is included for free.Sponsered by Fender so can't be too bad.

Probably why they normally charge so much for the app…
FREE Guitar Lessons:
Are you sure they are free?
It appears the app is free but you have to pay for lessons…
I downloaded the app yesterday but deleted it after I found out you must create an account to use it.
An app that requires you to pay for each song should be free.
Do they included any free songs with the base app?
Rock Prodigy: Learn Guitar
and
Guitar Lessons: Rock Prodigy
are both free. What is the difference???
the former one is old version.
Looks like they removed "Rock Prodigy: Learn Guitar" today. I can no longer see it in the App Store.
Still here on the Australian iTunes store:

I got it for the heck of it but my preference is to learn using RockSmith on my PC and PS3.
Additionally, if you don't want to pay for the program (but have a guitar), you can at least 'experience' the guitar learning by downloading onto youTube some of the songs. If I cannot be bothered turning on the PS3 but want to have a quick play, I usually load up youTube on the Samsung SmartTV and play one of the songs.
I should add that this is not something a beginner to the song should do as the ones on youTube are the 'expert mode' ones. Also, look for the videos without the player superimposed on it (unless you want to learn your fingering). EG. Cake - The Distance is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf8l-jCkmcY
I would LOVE it if something like this was ported to the iPad.
