Broadband in Parramatta NSW

I recently applied for a new broadband connection and received a response that there are no active pairs available in Telstra infrastructure. I tired with a different provider and got the same response.
They mentioned that I need to wait for someone to cancel to get a new connection.

My stay in a prime residential locality in Parramatta and surprised that I cant get a broadband connection at my home.

What other options do I have.

  • Does your house currently have an active phone line? And is it serviced through Telstra or Optus equipment?

  • My son got broadband with iiNet last month (Parramatta, Campbell St, high-rise building opposide Westfield Shopping Centre).

  • I first applied with tpg and then iiNet.
I have a phone now connected with iiNet.

    • iiNet is using Telstra network. I would contact Telstra and see what they say. They may offer you RIM / Pair Gain solution, while it's quite a bit slower it may be your only hope of getting an ADSL connection. On the other hand, if there are no spare ports on the exchange, then you just have to play the waiting game and use wireless in the meantime.

Telstra will be able to advise the type of connection to the exchange, which exchange, and whether there will be a RIM/Pair Gain available for you.

      • Thanks for the response.

When I did an address search on telstra site, it says cable broadband is available at my address. Does Cable also use the same infrastructure ?

        • Cable internet piggy backs off the Cable TV infrastructure, rather than a telephone line.

Do you have Cable TV box at your place?

Get cable if you can, much faster than ADSL2.

        • I just moved to this rented place and don't have cable.
I checked at Telstra store and they mentioned that it is available at my address.

  • I changed from ADSL to cable broadband. Its significantly better. They had to come and wire it up which took a few weeks but it was worth the wait.
