Hey guys
So apparently Lycamobile is 3G now.
I was wondering if anyone has tried it out and wondering what network they use now, and how the coverage/speed's are?
Cheers!

They are on Telstra's '3G network' - so seems likely the same non-full-NextG arrangement that Aldi has.
Rumours are that Telstra are at least planning on removing data-speed capping in their wholesaled network infrastructure.
Big difference for a Telstra-network plan is that Lyca's 'Super Saver Plan' gives you unlimited calls/text and 2GB data, instead of Aldi's 1GB. Also costs $29.90 instead of Aldi's $35.
Their other, various, plans have all the overseas-call options that Lyca are really known for.
No personal experience with Lyca customer service. Others will no doubt indicate whether or not it exists.
Yea,the customer service is definitley overseas from what I have experienced - most of them are very grumpy and annoyed when taking a call, then at the end they suddenly go all chirpy and nice saying "Have a nice day" or "I hope I have solved your problem".
just got one prepaid sim to test recently… much better coverage than vooda in my place and 3G data not too bad…. will port old number soon :-)
I've ordered and received two sims in preparation for a port once our boost prepaid month expires.
Can u do a speed test and post the results?
I've heard reports of very slow internet with lycamobile so hesitant to port my number across.
I'm not sure if the reports are predated to when they only offered 2g
internet browsing is better then vooda,, for speed test it gets IP registered to lycamobile UK so it does speed test with Uk server so its result is low 2-3mb,,, but browsing or viber call are good. You can start using the lycamobile few days before end of your current mobile billing cycle and test it in your area. then port it only if u like…
porting they do it very quickly, within 2-3 business hrs
"You can start using the lycamobile few days before end of your current mobile billing cycle and test it in your area"
How can I do that? I would have thought I would need to recharge with minimum amount and also what number would it use? I'd be expecting to port across my number but dont really want to be stuck with it for a month if I find it unusable.
@andyman1908:
they give new number once u activate and recharge…and if u like then u can port your old number …
Cheers. Boost credit runs out on 28th so will give me a few days to test it out. Worth it for the price cjp?
Are they still bankrupt?
The customer service is the worst I ever had!!!!
After more than 112 minutes waiting customer representative that cannot speak English ended up hanging up on me.
Currently I don't know what is going on with my porting request and I don't want to deal with Lycamobile anymore but I don't know how to stop porting request.
It is sad that this SCAM company was allowed to do business in Australia.
I had horrible experience with their customer Service too… waited for more than 30 mins 3-4 times and then someone answers the phone and hangup on me… later managed to speak with a rep for a while and she blamed it to the technical difficulties. It seems like this "Technical Difficulties" has not been fixed yet…
I've been trying to bring my boost mobile number to lyca for the last 5 days. Their customer service is worst in history - tech guys doesn't know what network boost mobile uses. It tried indian way - telstra, then optus then telstra now telstra wholesale!!!
I haven't tried the data, but I have been with them for about 2 years now, just for the free calling from Lyca to Lyca and an amazingly long expiry date - 90 days after the last time you call or send a message.
