COCKBURNS 10yo Port + 2 Glasses $19.90 @ Selected Dan Murphys

90

Sip a decent Portuguese port at a nice price, and snigger at the bottle name! Stock up for those inevitable cold winter nights!!

While there may be few other retailers stocking this label, it still stands as great value compared to the standard bottle sold at dans for $34.99:

https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_383445/cockburn-s-1…

Not only that, but compared to australian 10 year old tawnies, it still stacks as good value (remember though, this is a 500ml bottle; most aussie ports are in 750ml bottles).

The catch? Only at selected stores. I picked mine up from Gladesville NSW which had around 5 packs left. Other stores showing stock on the website include Willoughby and Mona Vale. Plug in your postcode and see what waits near you.

And don't forget to stack up value with Wish Cards and buying through starthere for a potential extra 10% discount!

Googled for an STD that would go with this ports name, then realized I'm at work and now I can't have any sick leave in the near future without getting suspect looks from my boss ….

  • Seems like not available in QLD

    • The Gap and Chermside do for anyone on that side of town (not me :( )

You can get Cockburns on the Gold Coast…

  • all port is portuguese

    • This is true. Not all tawnies are Port, though.

      • but all tawny port is. port. port port port. the clue is in the name. port.

    • I had a Echuca Chocolate Port and it was made in Echuca Vic Australia.

So no, all port isn't portuguese, it may have originated from Portuguese but it doesn't mean it is made there.

Port is a regional name for a type of fortified wine, just like Champagne is a regional name sparkling wine made in the Champagne area. There's knocks calling themselves the same thing, but they're no different to buying a copy of GoT in a Bangkok market, they're knocks.

There's lots of legal stoushes over the years regarding these regional food stuffs, especially in the EU & WTO.

    • But-a-burn?

  • wish they do discount on their Special Reserve one.

  • How do we find stock for the pack and not simply the bottle in the post link (which is showing as $35)?

    • +1

click the 'go to deal' link as opposed to the link in the description, then set your home store with your closest postcode. If no stock is showing up, try another store close to you.

  • This deal might be worth it for cringe-worthy product name. Could be make a funny gift.

  • I would only buy this if Dan Murphy's had a store in the WA suburb of Cockburn Central.

    • Or Innaloo maybe?

  • Is this a good deal?
    Is it a good wine?

I bought this last month or so. It's not bad. Though I think 10yr Aussie tawnies are better value. This seems younger than the listed age profile compared to the Aussies and more rose than what I expect from a sticky.

  • sad - none at QV, the only Dan Murphy's in Melbourne CBD
