Wow, lego is expensive.
If you've ever used lego (I guess that's a stupid question) compared to other lego substitutes, the lego performs much better.
Saying this, if you're buying lego, do not buy in Australia; it is much more expensive. Priced up three sets of Duplo for my daughter over the weekend at Kmart/Target/Toys are us. Was going to cost me $126 for three different sets (no shipping), bought the lot on Amazon for $56 shipped.
How much you save really depends.
For example:

Normal price is 80 USD. Shipping is 21 USD. Sum them up and you get 101 USD. Convert that to AUD and it equals to ~$113. Cheapest I can find here is at Kmart for $120.
You can see that there's a difference of $30 originally, but then the shipping makes up for most of it :(
Also Lego regularly goes on sale here with some really good savings.
