That's a great price - I paid $59 for mine and thought they were a bargain (and they were, at the time).

One note though - I found these no good for exercise, and not great for general walkin' around unless worn under earmuffs; the buds do not seat particularly well in the ears. I tried all of the various buds that came with the device (four sets of different sizes, in my case) but none of them did the job.

Sound quality is good - as if I know about that sort of stuff: I can tell the difference between hissy rubbish and "OK", but I detect bugger-all difference between these, my $20 'Chop-Sockey' bluetooth headphones and my $99 7.1 Sony PS3 set. Obviously the Sony looks the shizzle, fo' rizzle… but all of them relay "Stinkfist" to my ear-holes with quality sufficient to make me sing along with Maynard.

Try using the buds from a pair of iems you know stay in fine. From what I've seen they are all interchangeable between brands.

    • Thanks for the mini-review, does the cable come with anything to clip onto a shirt or something?

nvm: doesn't come with one; they do sell 'Plantronics clothing clip' separately apparently.

You can either try comply tips or flange tips.

Comply tips are foam based so they are soft and provide great fit.
The downside is they are expensive and need to be replaced periodically as the foam material breaks down after a while.

Flange tips are not as comfortable but they fit well and provide great noise isolation (must have for commuters!) They don't break down so you don't need to replace them for a long time, probably the best option for an ozbargainer :)

    I paid ~$70 for gym

Battery only lasts about 3-4 hours so it is safe to charge every two days if you don't want your music to stop while exercising

Ear buds wise you're better off buying extra foam tips from the internet (Comply foam tips are always great)
Included silicone tips are pretty slippery

Sound quality is great for bluetooth earphones.
I have used Westone UM1, Westone 2, UE Triple-Fi, Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear and am using UE900 and Bose AE2.
I don't find these bad at all

    • where do you buy comply foam tips? i searched them just then and they seem quite expensive

  • How do you know how much battery they have left in them at any one time?

Edit: never mind, its in the description

battery life seem bit lame. can u also plug it in a normal earphone jack?

Everyone's ears are a little different, some people say these don't fit well but for me they fit very securely. I bought the last black pair during the week from Richmond VIC OW, but they had a few whites left. They're perfect for my daily commute so I can avoid listening to people talking about their personal affairs on the phone during the trip in!

      normal earphones cost $5

And walking 15 kms to work costs $0.

  • This is a Bluetooth one . I personally don't like wired earphone :)

  • These are excellent, and a great price. Great for music, decent for voice, and I've never had any trouble running in them.

  • does anyone know what version of bluetooth it is?

  • If your budget creeps then probably think about Jaybird. Anyway this is the cheapest I've ever seen. Cheers

  • Will it work on Android 4.4 Kit Kat?

    • +1

      Yes

  • Do these v1 have the water-resistant/repelling nanocoating?

    • Yes and no, early version of V1 is not water resistant, according to amazon '* Available on models released after October, 2012' is water resistant - but you never know if the one officeworks is selling early version or not.

    • The copy I got today had P2i coat on packaging, if that helps at all

      • Thanks. Which store?

        • It was the Collin street store in Melbourne CBD.

        • I'm in Syd. No go then.

        • It was the last unit anyway, pretty sure they would all be the same even in Sydney. Just look up a store with stock and go check it out, otherwise call the store and ask if u want to save time.

One thing to note, these can only pair to one device.

With normal Bluetooth earphones and headsets, you can pair it to several different phones and switch between them.

With this one, you have to re-pair it every time you want to switch devices.

I had a pair which was OK. It wasn't very loud and didn't have the best fit. The battery life was also a bit short. I switched to a pair of Jaybird Bluebuds X and am much happier. It sounds much nicer with more defined lows (possibly due to the better fit) and at a higher volume.

At this price they're a great deal.

    • V2 can pair with severa devices too

      • Yup the second version will pair with several devices.
They won't fit comply tips though.

    • I spent a fair bit of time searching around for the best Bluetooth earphones and I got a pair of Jaybird Bluebuds X as well, excellent performance, definitely the best if you have the money, they are not particularly cheap unfortunately :(

But these Plantronics do look like they are okay for the money. You get what you pay for in the end.

After using these for 18 months, I wouldn't recommend them.

The cable connecting both ear pieces is rubber and if you turn your head to one side, the rubber grips to your neck and rips the ear piece out. More comfortable than the Motorola S9 and much better sound quality, but I'll grab the Motorolas first. Few things frustrate me more than ear pieces falling out.

They should have made the cable out of smooth plastic.

    • This was actually the selling point 'tangle free cable'. Apparently people have different views :)

    • Agreed, the rubber does make it awkward when turning your head.

Otherwise, for the price, I'd say it's a good buy, don't expect too much, Massive bonus on these is the mini usb charging, unlike my Sennheiser MM100 with a totally proprietary connector. Sennheiser sound much better and the battery lasts three times as long. But the Backbeat is discreet.

One thing also neg on the backbeat is that there's not buttons for skipping tracks, unless I don't know how.

I dont have the version 1, but Long press vol up/down works on v2, give it a try.

Just picked one up. Charging it up now. Seems like a good deal.

  • I hope they don't run out by the time I can get to the closest store with stock, closest store is out. Been waiting for a deal on these.

  • Actually lost these a few months back, because they were so portable. For this price it's definitely worth it if you enjoy having the freedom of not being wired.

  • I could only find v2's for ~$88 at the Vermont South store. Website says they have v1's in stock but I couldn't be bothered asking the staff to check.

    • The website showed Milton having stock of the black v1 for $39. When I went there, only white was available. The guy said he just sold the last black one an hour ago - another store called them up to find out if they had stock.

Looks like their website stock levels aren't updated in realtime.

Oh mine also has the p2i sweat resistant sticker.

      • That was me that got the last black one, I actually had it on hold until I could get there in the evening. Looks like I timed it well.

Loving them so far, although I changed the earbuds to some slightly smaller ones I have and they've been left in my ear twice after taking out the phones. They're not easy to squeeze out on their own either, you look like a fool.
Might just have to change back.

          YOU!!!!

          wags finger

  • I managed to get one for my wife and one for myself, both from different stores. If its helps, both the shops that I went to did not have it in the open but kept it behind the counter (or actually in the cupboard behind the counter). Both earphones have the P2i sticker.

Thanks a lot Op. Nice little earphones that I can wear during my commute and still have my beanie on. Loving it.

And the white ones are actually $29.95 from same eBay seller

      • Beat me to it :) Was gonna get the white one, but they get dirty pretty quick. Got the black one instead.
