this is the best deal I came across

I think I can do better ;). Check this out. Both 3G and 4G plans available and all are without contract:

Both this mob and the one you mentioned run on the Optus network.

    • exetel is an arsehole company, to be avoided no matter what they offer.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, only downside to Exeter is the over limit charges

Virgin Mobile BYO is pretty good, not 8GB, but every month no contract 6GB for $30 http://www.virginmobile.com.au/byo-mobile-broadband-modem or the $40 for 12GB is also very good. Optus 4G coverage, 1KB charges, no excess charges, no contract.

$40 for 12GB is an excellent deal!

Virgin Mobile is by far the worst data provider I've used. Massive congestion problems due to oversale of their "slice" of the tower capacity means customers are left if strong signal indicating connectivity to the tower but constant problems actually getting any data to flow. I could not recommend more strongly against using Virgin Mobile, really ANY other provider is better.

      • Yep, concur. I briefly used their 3G mobile broadband awhile back and the data speed and basic reliability of the connection were so dire on their dedicated APN that it was also unusable for me.

    • Can't seem to get their order page to work, also I noted this - Peer to peer speed is limited to 32Kbps.

    miss pennytel $14 for 4gb :/

    • They also had $25 buying 14GB.
      Now $99…

      • ahh yup remember that

  • lyca had 2gb for $10 not sure if they still got it

  • aldi mobile i found to be the best~ $10 or $15 for 2 gig and the download speeds were like solid as 500kbps but now its cost went up :(

+1 for virgin mobile. Ive been using it for a year (gold coast) on an unlocked 3g Telstra WiFi modem. Couldn't be better.
Beware of pennytel. Massive overcharging on their "prepaid" bundle.. they admitted numerous accidental charges but said they couldn't stop them. Go virgin if you're OK with optus reception.

  • Or get optus $2 days - 15gb per month and u limited calls for $60

    • Tethering is against T's & C's. If Optus pay any attention to your account and detect modem use, they will terminate your account. I remember reading threads on Whirlpool bearing that out as having happened.

      • This is gonna sound petty but can I 'report' someone (he's a prick lol)

        • I regularly have fun making life difficult for pricks. The world is chockers with 'em.

You can try. Whether or not Optus will bother to do anything is another matter. If he's on the 'no new signups' 3G $2 Days, they might bite.

  • Funnily enough I've been tethering the sh** out of it since I got it 6 months ago at the recommendation of the optus rep who said "you're not really supposed to but everyone does" :)

    • Maybe since bringing in the 500MB per day cap on the 4G $2 Days (it was originally 1GB), they have decided not to chase people up…
