Companies that charge you $$$ - then weeks later say they cannot 'fulfill order'!

I get really sick of this behaviour and it seems to happen ALOT on Ozbargain. I am sure we all remember the playasia 'Last of Us' debacle. I have just had the same experience with Big W with a bike.

The biggest issue for me is that you are charged. Then they say 'we will refund you' and you end up having to check your statement for weeks… Follow up…. Complain…. Etc.

I can understand with genuine pricing errors but in many cases - this is actually companies deliberately or lazily committing to sell goods they don't have, and taking MY money - holding it - wasting my time - and feasibly even earning interest.

    Did somebody say fishpond.

  • Yep, customers' money from unfulfilled orders, held in short-term money-market investments. It does seem to be part of the 'business model' for some companies, and other 'operators'.

  • DSE and DX?

    • Could be. For many companies - after you subtract consequences of customer ill-will from the equation - there would be a tangible bottom-line to be seen from the skullduggery.

remember the Kogan iPhone debacle ? I can't remember which model 5C was it ? I think Kogan have done it multple times. I think this tactic was also coined "being kogan'd" in the OzBargain comments

    • Yes, many of us have long-held suspicions about Kogan as regards this and
some people on here used to consider it to be one of Kogan's early 'business financing' strategies, equivalent to a quick cash loan.

      We aren't a particularly trusting bunch…

  • The good guys did this to me on one of their ebay sales. Told me up to 4 weeks for refund. I told them thats BS and threatened consumer affairs and they refunded two days later which showed they can do it. you guys are right, its interest free finance for them scammers.
