MacBook Battery Replacement

My MacBook Pro 13" (bought in Feb 2012) is getting on a bit now and after seeing little use in 2013, has poor battery life. Nowadays, for my studies, I need it to be getting more than the 2-3 hours it's currently getting with no keyboard backlight and screen brightness at 70-80%.

Questions:
I assume that to get the battery replaced, I go to the Apple store, correct?
How much will the replacement cost?
Will I be covered under warranty?
Is it worth it?

Are you on Mavericks? That should help a bit with battery life.

    Yes

How much will the replacement cost?

    $160 for non-retina model

Will I be covered under warranty?

They say it's one year warranty, but then again it's technically still working. Depends on which person you get. If they refuse you could go all Australain Consumer Law on them.

    Is it worth it?

Depends how badly you need that extra battery life and if you bring it around a lot.

    • Thanks for the reply mate. Did a serial number check on the Apple website, said that my "Repairs and Service Coverage: Active; Your product is covered for eligible hardware repairs and service under a custom agreement."

Does this mean I just turn up and get them to replace it?

  • i have the same model as you. didnt have warranty but they replaced my battery for free :)

  • I would check the battery condition first. To do that press and hold option, then click on the battery status menu in the top right corner of the screen. It will show something like "normal" or "needs service".

I would also check if there are any apps draining your battery:
