Laptop for $700 - Acer V5 or ASUS S56CM?

Hi guys,

Which laptop would you buy if you had $700 to spend on one, which will also be able to play the new Sims 4 game:

Acer V5 - $650 after cashback:

ASUS S56CM - $599 refurb:

From what I found, these seem like the best options. I'm thinking more the Acer, as I have seen the ASUS reach $499 before, so not sure about the $599 price point.

Have I missed any with better specs for the price?

The ASUS with Nvidia 635m will have better performance in 3d games, whereas the Acer has a more up-to-date Haswell CPU with better power saving properties. The ASUS will have an advantage in boot times and application load times because of the 24GB SSD cache. Acer probably has a better battery life. emphasis on probably.

If you have $762 dollars to spend, why not try

It's most likely overkill considering you only play Sims 4, but the GPU is a lot more powerful and is therefore capable of playing the latest games as well.

To get an idea of what each GPU is capable of
    720m - Acer
    635m - ASUS
    740m - Toshiba

Pricematch that toshiba at Officeworks and get it 5% cheaper.
Come on Scrim, stay on the ball ;)

Otherwise I agree with Scrimshaw's comments. The ASUS looks like the better laptop, but refurbished and older CPU turns me off it. Pay a little more and go with the Toshiba.

    • Thanks dude for your input, much appreciated!!

  • Looks like JB just put this up by over $100?

  • MSY link for that product is

Pay $708…$79 cashback from Acer = $629. Add $9 for additional year of warranty too.

Don't think it is a touch screen though if that's a feature you are after.

    • But it's only 4GB DDR3, the one I linked has 8GB.

  • Just carefully open her up and slap another 4 to 8 GB in, and while your at it upgrade the hdd to a SSD too.

  • Acer has bad warranty
