Buy now or wait until EOFYS?

I literally accidentally posted this on Whirlpool and realised I should've been asking here since I sound like a total stinge there so please help me!

Copy and pasted from Whirlpool cos i'm too lazy to write again!

Hello,

My fridge just died… again (had it repaired a few months ago) and now it has gone haywire. We're thinking of getting it repaired but since it is a Samsung fridge and is most likely to fail us again and now thinking of getting a new [reliable] fridge (yes Samsung tv good, fridge bad).. The thing is that EOFYS is so close and we're not sure if we should wait or purchase now, especially since this is a everyday necessity.

However, we do have a small ~300 litre fridge that we can survive off in the meantime as we did when our fridge was getting repaired before. However, it was hard… Do you guys think it's worth it just to purchase now (with the power of haggling) or maybe wait and possibly knock off a few hundred dollars (..then haggle some more)?. I'm not sure how discounted whitegoods get during EOFYS and if anyones got similar experience I would like to know what my best option is?

P.S When does EOFYS actually start…?

EDIT: Oh just realised, should I purchase close to end of may and take advantage of 30 day guarantee that some stores have? I think I may have answered my own question!

Thanks all!

extra (copy and pasted post #2):
But wait.. say if I purchase now with RRP of $2400, then haggle it down to ~$2100 and goes into sale for $2100 during EOFYS, does that I mean I lose extra haggling power? Say that I purchase $2100 on sale and maybe get it down close to $1950ish?

Do I make any sense or do I sound like a total stinge? I think I might be in the wrong forum, maybe I should ask OzBargain this… lol

Know what a product is worth and how much you want to pay for it.
Tell them that price and always be willing to walk away.

  • Harvey Norman seem to be closing stores every couple of weeks, give them a go.

  • How old is your current (broken) samsung fridge? If it's within a reasonable life expectancy, you should be able to get it repaired at no cost under Australian Consumer Law. Assuming it was a pretty expensive fridge, it should have an expected life of at least 5 years, if not more.

If they have tried to repair the problem a few times and it keeps breaking, you can (by law) request a refund or complete replacement with a similar model (unlikely that they still make yours) - I would take the refund (YOU choose) and get something else :)

Remember, you can go to the place you purchased it and they cannot shaft you over to the manufacturer! They have to deal with it.
