Harvey Norman Electric Blanket, Goldair GST-Q Queen Size $34

580

PDF Brochure Link

This seems very cheap for a single but it's a queen size with two year warranty.

Cheapest online queen sized at the GoodGuys is a Kambrook for $55.

Harvey's $5 welcome discount (www.harveynorman.com.au/email-signup/) brought it down to $29 and I'm looking forward to some warm nights.

"Featuring three heat settings, a tie-down design and dual fixed controllers, the Goldair Flat Electric Blanket for queen sized beds helps you stay warm and cosy through the winter months".

Key Features

  • Ensure you always get into a warm bed with the Goldair Flat Electric Blanket. Three heat settings allow you to pick a temperature that’s right for you no matter the season.
  • Dual fixed controls allow you and your partner to adjust the temperature without having to disturb one another.
  • The Goldair Flat Electric Blanket is hand washable.
  • Measuring 155 x 150cm, the Goldair Flat Electric Blanket fits a queen sized bed.

I know there's stock at Everton Park QLD but I ordered through another branch (backorders allowed).

Sorry meant to + your comment!

  • Thanks, need one of these. Can't get the signup thing working for the $5 off though - unexpected error WTF!

    EDIT - Working now. :D

  • Where do you enter the voucher code?

Edit - found it on the desktop site.

  • +1

Does the $5 code arrive in the email on signing up? Is it a unique code or a generic one?

    • It looks like a unique code and it will be emailed to the address you used when signing up.

    • Hi, It is a unique code and will arrive to your email almost instantly. (should be few minutes max)
Make sure you are not signed up already (with the current email anyway).
It is a great deal, thanks OP!

  • Signed up an hour ago and still no code…

    • +1

My code came within a few minutes. Check your junk/spam folder as it's probably in there.

    • It's not from the sign up page.

This week's coles catalouge has queen size electric blanket only for $28
    http://www.coles.com.au/catalogues/weekly/current/c-sa-met/i…

    • I bought this one a couple of weeks ago at full price. Still great value.

      • Any idea how many year warranty it comes with? I'm tossing between this and Harvey's

      • Ar……too late just brought from HN….

  • Done. Thanks.

  • Still remember the day I spent $189 for a sunbeam queen size at Myer. what was I thinking …

    • Ain't that bad, I think I paid an extra $20+ for the King size! Biggest POS ever. Don't touch the Sunbeam one. Check Google for reviews. After a year it wouldn't work and the controllers are about $50 each. (Didn't have the damn receipt for a replacement either :@ )
There are plenty of good deals on Ebay at the moment, though this price is decent

  • COTD have frequently had QS electric blankets for $25 of late, likely will again soon

Edit: Seems $30 today for Heller, 1y wty http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/event/38757/product/heller-t…

Im a clubcatch member as are a number of other OzBers so zero for us. Also much less f you are buying other stuff. It also part of the sbuy $200 get $40 promo atm.

        • +2

Im a clubcatch member as are a number of other OzBers so zero for us

You've just paid for your shipping fee in an earlier transaction, so it's not "zero".

        • -3

No, i have paid to have no shipping fee for a year - what we have ordered would have been hundreds of dollars in shipping fees.
You point is also meaningless semantics - for clubcatchcatch there is zero more to pay, and there are many on OzB. It is a comment, a piece of information, not a neg.

        • +1

          I have paid

So it's not zero. Thanks for confirming.

  • don't suppose anyone knows the energy consumption of these, or a ballpark figure?

    • +3

      Make sure you've got a good quilt/blanket.
That way you don't have to keep the electric blanket on all night. Just switch it on 30 mins before going to bed, so it's all toasty warm when you hop in… and switch it off once you've totally warmed yourself up.

With a good quilt, you should be able to maintain that warmth throughout the night without turning the e-blanket back on.

I wouldn't live without both. Love my electric blanket. Slipping into a warm bed in winter = best feeling ever lol.

    • +1

The Onix from Coles says 60w on the control. So that would be the consumption on high for one side.

    • +2

It's on the linked PDF brochure - 2 x 60W - which would presumably be the max

  • Our queensize is about 20watts on low, 30watts medium and 60watts on high. Give or take a few watts here and there. Obviously, different models will vary somewhat but not hugely.

Compared to running a small 1000watt heater in your room at night, electric blankets are pretty impressive for keeping you warm, and cutting back on heat bills.

  • anyone find any cheap fitted electric blankets… not a fan of the 'tie down' type (though +1 for this deal as its cheap)

    • Aldi have the fitted type, usually once a year. Should be nearly time again.

      • +1

Hopefully Aldi have improved on the one they sold between 2010 and 2012 that was (and still is being) recalled due to the risk of fire and electric shock.

        • +1

I've stopped buying anything electrical at ALDI. Nearly everything I bought there has failed after a few months or just after a year. They'll refund it or replace it (usually refund as they don't keep 'specials' stock) but it's just not worth the hassle any more.

The electric blanket seems to be the only thing that's lasted more than two years, but I seldom used it, and it's now been recalled!

  • lol, OP is Queensland and needs one? I'm from Melbourne and can still live without it. As ozbargainer you don't need one, try score a human heater for free instead.

    • +16

Had one, but the blanket is quieter and cheaper to keep going.

      • +13

        Easier to turn on too

        • -1

Moist. I don't know where I'm going with this joke, I just like the dirty innuendo.

    • +2

Or pre heat the bed and the you and the 'human heater' require less layers… ;-)

    • +1

If you fink a human heater is free? You're wrong! Cus it requires a lot of maintenance & headache. And if you're lucky, you'll be stuck with one for life ;p

  • Does anyone know if this electric blanket is any good?

  • Cheap, but I'd pay more for one that's machine washable, fitted skirt, quilted top and timer in control if possible. But we use ours a lot so we don't mind spending a lot (around 150-200) on one.

  • Thanks OP! I'll buy this to replace my ALDI one that's just been recalled:

    https://www.aldi.com.au/fileadmin/fm-dam/pdf/product_recall/…

EDIT: forgot to add, I'll buy this online if the Harvey Norman website allows me - the last three times I've tried to order something, it failed completely twice, then the third time they ran out of stock and cancelled my order. Haven't had much luck with it. Go Harvey Go!

  • Never had one but I'm going to grab this! Hope it doesn't encourage overuse of the snooze button.

Does it have a timer to auto switch off? Or is that not the idea?

    • +2

It's definitely not a good idea to go to sleep with it turned on. It will dry you out very quickly. I forgot to turn mine off once after hopping in bed and woke up two hours later dehydrated with a throbbing headache and very dry itchy skin for the next two days.

If you turn the electric blanket on 10-15 minutes before you go to bed, the bed will be very warm when you get in. Then hopefully your blankets will keep the warmth inside. If you've tried using one of these on a very cold night with a thin sheet or light blanket, you'll cook from underneath but freeze on top. Not recommended.

More expensive blankets have timers attached, but the electronics seem to fail regularly. They're not worth it.

  • +1

I bought a Queen yesterday from Bing Lee. Kambrook KEB 533. Its pretty good! down from $129 to $105 after a bit of haggling. The only downside is it doesn't have a timer.

    http://www.binglee.com.au/kambrook-keb533-snugasabug-electri…

Now i just got to keep at at the maximum heat setting and make the Mrs hot ;)

  • -2

Don't they take any electricity to operate. If they do why they never show the power it uses (# of Watts and Amp) in their specifications. I have couple of them at home and was trying to find this once. I was looking for this every time I see an electricity blanket and never managed to find it in any of the specs. Not sure why it's not a requirement to reveal it when they sell it to customers.

    • Read the thread for enlightenment :)

  • Bought mine today and picked up from Liverpool 'megacenta' (they had plenty of stock). Using it right now and its great! heats up in no time :)

  • do people still use this sh*t?
i thought stuff like this burnt houses down.

    • +1

Home heating - including wood fires, gas and electric heaters and chimney/flue fires - were responsible for 47 of the 279 fires last year, electric blankets six fires and clothes dryers five fires.

Ever use a heater or clothes dryeror are they too scary too?

      • To be fair, being set alight in your sleep is pretty annoying.

  • +1

I connected mine to my Wemo switch. Now I can remotely tell it to turn on about half an hour before I go to bed. I also have it set to turn off automatically before midnight in case I fall asleep and leave it on. It then turns on an hour before my alarm so I wake up in comfort.

    Best.

  • be careful, some of these cheapies go up in flames

  • +1

I bought this and it barely heats up. I've had it on for 3 hours like it says on the manual for first use and my bed is barely warm. Also I was wondering if this is an under blanket or over blanket? The tie down has me confused. So should I sleep on it directly with another blanket on top? Any help for a noob is appreciated!

    • Loving mine!
Take yours back. The one I bought heats up in just a few minutes (though the provided guide talks of much longer preheating).
