  • Not too bad, a regular saving if you need them.

  • +1

Nah I am sorry - I am going to have to disagree here.

Which of course makes me feel bad - but anyway

with the exception of the saline solution (which is often overlooked in a kit) - this is a pretty poor "first aid" kit

Just as an example the personal first aid kit comes about better

    http://www.stjohnambulance.com.au/content.asp?id=101

and something really cheap still compares well
    - although I just choose this link at random

    http://www.mediband.com/First-Aid-Kits/c46/p493/Workplace-Occupational-C-First-Aid-Kit-(Clear-box)/product_info.html?osCsid=ddcfl49ocel1lh2g9ski6ehnf5

and thats even before we get onto the Red Cross

and the money you spend on postage - you could pick a kit up

Also I cannot see why you need Tegaderm dressings in a first aid kit - its a specialist thing as I understand. I would be interested what type of acute injury this will treat??

Also your deal is not specifically for ozbargainers - its on the net for the world to see

Please don't get me wrong I love first aid kits being available at cheap prices, especially ones that can fit in a car etc.

But I dont think yours is that great.

    • I also fail to see why this would be a "bargain" in the meaning & spirit of Ozbargains.

  • One other thing - the lack of a quick reference first aid guide is a real negative

I know its hard with litigation the way it is, but this type of thing is essential

not everyone who gets there hands on a kit is going to know how to use it

of course reading it in an emergency is another thing altogether :P

Its just when you market a first aid kit, you are really selling something that may prevent serious illness/injury

and its held to VERY high standards

  • Natt: Firstly, no this is not for all to see. Our normal price is $27, the ozbargain price is $22. This is clearly noted in the title and the description.

I actually missed one item, which is the alcohol sterits which are included also.

The tegaderm is a waterproof dressing which can be used to protect against dirty water/sweat getting in. Tegaderm may be used in the treatment of minor burns, pressure areas, donor sites, post-operative wounds, and a variety of minor injuries including abrasions and lacerations. It is also used as a protective cover to prevent skin breakdown due to friction or continuous exposure to moisture, i.e. if you are hiking or going on long walks etc. (http://www.dressings.org/Dressings/tegaderm.html) Tegaderm is not really a 'specialist' product, but a good dressing to use when moisture is involved.

The 2nd site you linked to has the first aid kit for $29.92 including postage. Our kit is similar but cheaper. With regards to the quick reference card, perhaps we will include that in future revisions, but this is a run out so probably not this time. But I really appreciate the feedback. The St John one is more comprehensive yes, but it is also significantly more expensive. Perhaps the next kits that are made up will be just as comprehensive and have a price increase to compensate.

Horizon: Hard to respond to your post when you dont justify your comment. Would love to respond if you let me know how I can make it better.

  • Auspost sells St. John's first aid kits for less than $20.

  • Happy to get some feedback - wont be putting the tegaderm in a normal kit, but will be trying it out for blisters when bushwalking

I do appreciate the reply, especially as its well balanced.

Not sure we agree on everything - but thats the point of letting people make up there on mind

good luck with the website - building them is a pain!

oh and the auspost thing is a very good point - thats the link I could not find

    http://catalogue.auspost.com.au/portal/offerdetails/st_john_…

the eyepatch could double at a push

i got one of these a while back a pretty good "emergency" one - especially as it has a ressus device/space blanket included

  • See: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/2552

Last time you said "Just got an email from them (since I have purchased from them before)"

    Why the lies before?

    • LOL!

      Totally owned & busted!

      • Please read the post below before jumping to conclusions. I posted a reply 33 minutes before your post explaining it.

  • Wow thats scary - nothing ever really dissapears on the net ;P

  • Jigglycho: I have only just acquired this business after it being run by someone in my extended family. My whole family is in health, and I have taken over the running of it due to conflict of interest.

Natt: Sure. With regards to the auspost kit, I can't really comment as I dont know what it contains.

  • From the picture in the link
    First Aid quick reference guide
    plastic strips
crepe bandage (not sure on size I would have to check)
    Guaze Swabs
    Face Shield
    Eye pad
    Emergency Blacket
    Scissors - nice ones too
    hypoallergenic tape
    pr latex gloves
    triangular blanket
    2 x saline solution
    clear lunchbox

why i like this kit is it really seems to be focused on a first response such as ressucitation/control of bleeding etc

space blankets can be about $5 seperately and I still use the scissors from a previous kit

I remember using this as a base and putting a few other useful items like an ice pack, splinter probes etc

    but thats just an opinion

  • Without scissors, how can you cut the bandage and split it down the middle to tie a knot?

  • Well both are very similar in terms of controlling bleeding. The kits are similar except for mine has a bag instead of a box, has melolite, safety pin, and a different number of band aids (cant verify how much the aus post kit has) and some alchohol sterits. And the auspost kit has the eye pad, scissors, blanket and one more saline.

Assuming your description is correct, both kits don't have a resuscitation device.

Again, you pick the kit based on the activities you are doing. Every kit has a different use. Cheaper kits are not suitable for higher risk activities etc.

Lenneth: The triangular bandage is pre cut. It can easily be tied in a knot around the back of the neck to support a fractured/sprained arm/wrist etc.

  • ya its horses for courses, i like the other kit more because it has a face shield (thats the ressuc), the blanket and the book - and the scissors where great

    rather than the dressings

but in this case - given that kit is $20 - I could easily put in an extra $12.70 of stuff should I want (the price difference including postage)

and come up with a superior kit

the bonus is a box is water proof, but its not terribly carry friendly

that and a space blanket is going to come in very handy at the site of an accident to manage shock, and I think thats much more important - something that can go in a car and come out should it ever be needed

oh and ya scissors are not essential, but they are useful, for the triangular bandage but for cutting the tape, even clothes if needed (although there are purpose built ones that are much better and safer)

the old pair are actually kitchen scissors as they have lasted so long lol

  • Sure, every first aid kit fits different situations. This is obviously not for a car accident etc. Ill reiterate this again. The kit is $22 + $5.70 for ozbargainers.

It is usually $27+ $5.70 for normal customers.

I did state this twice in separate posts. Hope it's not too confusing as I did word the original post in a confusing manner.

Im not too sure if that box is waterproof, i'd check to be sure if you were after a waterproof kit.

  • hmm ya survive a dunking no, survive rain yes, survive in a pack with bushwalking yes - should have said water resistant

and i did miss the price thing

but thats the point a first aid kit, at least one this type of price, its for first aid, that is immediate management of life threatening illness/injury

and its not a bargain if I can get something that does just as well (and I would argue better) at the same price

I think its great you are checking out this thread, but I will be honest in my assessment

oh car accident was an example, shock is common in any injury

  • The nylon bag is pretty much the same in terms of water resistivity.

First aid kits are not primarily for treatment of life threatening injuries. You have sprains, cuts, small bleeding wounds which can be gained from a variety of activities around the house/garden or out and about. This kit is designed to cater for that. And not for life threatening injuries. The aus post kit is not designed for life threatening injuries either. More extensive kits may, but they range into the hundreds of dollars.

Your assessment is fair, and I am not asking you to change it otherwise we would not improve our products, but they are different kits with different items, hence the price difference. They may seem similar but they are different enough to warrant the price difference.

I understand shock is common in any injury (after all I should seeing as I run this business), but as I said above, different kits for different purposes.
