The only 4G smartphone that I can think of that costs less than $150 is the Telstra Frontier 4G for $99. You'll have to pay to unlock it though if you intend to use it on another carrier.

An alternative is the Huawei Ascend G526.

Dick Smith regularly have 10% off sales so you can get it for ~$180. Much better than the Frontier.

  • Thank a lot Kelvin

  • Huawei Ascend G526 , yep bought this one as a back up for $129

Think most people are happy with it (great for the price)

  • The Ascend G526 is currently $159 in-store at Vodafone.

      • It is locked. Can be unlocked though.

I forgot to mention that it is still $179 on the Vodafone site but we have seen them for the reduced price in a lot of Vodafone stores and kiosks. I actually questioned Vodafone about the price difference (between the site and in-store). This was their reply:
"The reason that you're seeing those different prices is because we like to keep our offers fresh. This can mean that there are different prices depending on where you go. The best bet will be to pop in store and snag the deal while it's hot."

      • I bought one when it was on sale for $99 and unlocked it for free using the Vodafone website

        • Lucky you as it seems that phone is out of stock from Vodafone.
