Looking for a plan for both me and my wife so we can talk for free to each other. Won't need the mobiles for anything else really so added benefits such as cheap calls and data don't apply. What is my cheapest option?

OP doesn't seem to care much about data. The Simple Plan provides only 100Mb for the 3 months. Probably sufficient to check your emails twice a week, which is better than nothing.
As PJC mentioned I don't care about data only being able to call/text another phone on the same network for free. Shame the Vodafone $20 for 365 days doesn't offer this. Still hunting for something cheaper than $19 + $19 per 3 months but I don't think I'm going to find it.
How about amaysum pay ws you go..recharge $10, good for 3 months. Minumum of $40 for 12 months.
If you already have phones, get 2 VirginMobile sims and choose the $19 Simple Plan. You get 3 months of free talk and SMS to all other VirginMobile users. Contacting anyone else is 15c per SMS or 15c per minute. Recharge before expiry to retain unused credit.
