There is still no word on an AUS release. I was hoping for a borderlands 2 bundle but this doesnt look like its going to happen.

Personally it looks like the PS Vita 2000 win on all grounds but the display but from what I have seen unless you have them running side by side you will not see a difference. Im mostly excited about the weight reduction and the extra battery life. Also dumping that stupid proprietary cable is a winner in my book.

  • PS Vita 2000 win on all grounds but the display

I'm sorry but what? I thought IPS technology is the high end of display technology, well at least in terms of colour reproduction and viewing angle.

Anyone explain why the new vita loses if it has a IPS display? Also, i thought it was just a normal LCD display being used in the new vita… did they change that? (By normal i thought it was a non IPS panel)

I tried to look into it but I cant find a answer on what type of LCD it is :-(

Im not an expert on display but the consensus is its not quite as good as the OLED

      • I was reading up on some reddit posts and tbh, it depends on what type of LCD panel is being used in the renewed version of the Vita.

Because there are people that said that it might be a TN because they saw a difference in side by side comparisons, in which case, if it is a TN panel then it would be a downgrade.

But if they choose to get a IPS panel for the renewal, it is like comparing your iphone screen to a samsung screen. Iphone use a technology that's based off IPS whilst samsung use AMOLED for their screens. From my personal opinion having owned an Iphone 4, GS3 and Note II, they all look similar with the Iphone 4's screen looking a little sharper and it looks slightly more natural to me.

I have used the LCD display when i was in Japan and have to say that it looks a little dulled and slightly yellowed when next to the OLED screen.

Also note that the 1GB onboard memory is useless once the memory card is inserted. It cannot be accessed in conjunction with the external memory.

The unit feels slightly more contoured and slimmer but at the same time it felt cheaper and hollow - the body could be visually squeezed inwards, no biggy but in comparison the original feels much more premium.

I also disliked the fact that the screen was a separate piece than the rest of the consoles body whereas the original was a bit slicker in looks being one piece.

I do like the colours though and the fact that it now uses a micro usb power input and also appreciate that the Vita needs a budget conscious model in order to progress.

        • Hmm perhaps they cheaped out and got a low-end IPS =/

I don't personally care for handhelds anymore… only got the 3ds for pokemon =)

Just get the new model if it's available. The body of the new model is superior in grip and the weight is that much better. I really don't think the OLED is all that much better when you trade dynamic range for really inaccurate colours.

  • Yeah I would like to get the new one. One of my biggest issues with the OLED vita is the massive rear touch pad causing false touches. I have heard this is really frustrating in borderlands due to its heavy reliance on the rear touch.

I just wish Sony would give us a date!

    • atm it doesnt seem like we will get the new vita..

  • I am in Japan at the moment with my son, and he wants to buy the PS Vita TV unit which is selling over here for around $100 on it's own or $145 with a wireless controller.

I no almost nothing about these things, and my questions are :

Will it work on an Australian TV
Will it work with Region 4 Games - all the games in Yodobashi Umeda were Region 2 for Japan

    • I know it works OK but it is not 100% at the moment.

That said it could have been updated by now but you may need to do some more research.

      • It'll work on Australian TV. But you need a Japanese PSN account to use the actual Vita TV
      • I don't think any PS VITA (or TV, or PS3, or PS4) games are region locked. It's just that if you buy DLC from our region, you can't link it to the game.

      tl;dr don't buy it.

      • AFAIK, it works with Asian PSN account not just Japanese.

    • Do you know how much it cost for PS Vita slim?

    • I'd recommend against it, if you're paying for it.
Not all games are supported on the Vita TV.
Additionally, you need to make a foreign account just to use it.

  • I played with one in Japan, hit me up with specific questions if you want.

Overall: current owners shouldn't see it as an 'upgrade'. Considering the cost, it's a kinda sideways movement (because of screen).

New owners should definitely be pleased by the more attractive updated model, though.

    • How is the build quality? I'm really interested in the light blue one.

      • It's got more plastic than v1. Gone is the metal frame surrounding v1. But, it still feels good, better than 3DSXL.

        • I'm pretty sure v1 bezel is not metal.

        • Yeah it isn't. It's just metallic paint coated plastic.

        • Yeah, my bad, you're correct. What I meant to say, is that v1 does feel slightly more solid. V1 has a full front glass panel, whereas v2 only has glass over the top of the LCD screen. This adds to the weight making it heftier, but also makes it feel more solid because it'll flex less.

    No thanks!

  • I bought the light blue/white PS Vita in Japan 2 days ago.

I basically bought it because I was buying a PS4 and because of the better price overseas.

I've never had one before, but I am happy with it so far. I find it a little awkward to hold.
