Has anyone purchased & used a reliable sim in China lately.
We are going to Beijing, Shanghai, Yangtze River cruise & Hong Kong in June for 3 weeks.
Need internet access for half hour once per day for work, plus maybe phone call or text to Australia very seldom.
Mobile Phone & Data Sim for China

I think in China you can buy a pre-paid sim card which will also allow you data access, but you need to remember to switch off your Internet when not in use, otherwise they'll eat up your credit pretty quickly. All of the carriers are pretty good, and you'll find shops selling the sim cards all over the streets, I think the most common one is China Telecom or something. Not sure how much exactly because each phone number gets priced differently, the really good numbers with lots of 8's, will cost a lot more.
Maybe you can also get an international data pack with your Australian carrier too. It might be more expensive but then you don't have to roam around the streets and trying to get past the language barrier to buy a sim card.
I also think that if you use the sim card you bought in China in Hong Kong, the rates will be different because it's considered roaming. But don't rely completely on my words, make sure you ask before you pay for the sim card.
These guys just had a USA special on here and they do China, Hong Kong and Macua sims.
