I have good reader, hate it when they create another version and make you pay for it again… :-(

If it's any consolation, it's now a universal app

edit: sorry - just repeating what the OP has said

    • universal baby!!!

  • No doubt GoodReader is a very good app from many accounts, but before you commit, it's worthwhile reading this big roundup of iPad PDF apps from The Sweet Setup (I expect it's pretty painful managing/editing PDF apps on the iPhone):

The best app for managing, editing, and reading PDFs on your iPad | PDF Expert 5
    http://thesweetsetup.com/apps/best-pdf-manager-editor-ipad/

The winner was PDF Expert 5, with runner-up PDF Expert 5. Mind you it was almost certainly reviewing GoodReader 3.

    Here's an excerpt:

We imported each document into each app and ran the following tests:

    • Import speed
    • Speed at rendering pages on swipe
    • Compatibility with the different annotations and forms
    • Filling out forms
    • Redacting, highlighting, adding text, and noting PDFs
    • Exporting
    • Re-ordering pages
    • Merging documents
    • Organizing documents
    • Syncing PDF documents between devices/services

Only one app, PDF Expert 5, could do all of those tasks. In almost every task, PDF Expert performed faster and/or more reliably than the other apps we tested. There were many apps that could do almost every task, but they often fell short in one or more tests (most notably in the merging and/or form filling tests).

    The Best: PDF Expert 5
PDF Expert 5 by Readdle was released as we were testing and researching other apps, and we are glad it was. PDF Expert performed with aplomb in all of our tasks, and even added a new metric to our test criteria because it is the only “full-featured” PDF app that could merge PDF documents together (via a copy and paste mechanism built in for PDF pages in the app).

This 'roundup' has a thorough explanation of why PDF Expert is so good, yet has almost no details on where the other apps fell short. For example, "It has the fastest page reordering and deleting of the apps we tested, and it does this smoothly and quickly." but there is no actual data on how much slower the other apps were.

So leaving aside whether or not PDF Expert is a good program, I am quite suspicious of this particular review

  • Reviewers are warning against new goidreader

The new features sound worthwhile (I've always wanted to be able to extract pages to send) but I'm a bit annoyed having to buy it again even if it's at a discount.

  • paid full price for original good reader for both iPhone and iPad. loved it.
    jumped on this as well.

  • I can't see any point in buying this if you already have the others. What does it offer that is so much better, apart from its universality?

    • i thought the page extraction feature sounded good/useful
