Bag for compact / mirrorless cameras

Hi all.

There have been many discussions about (and deals for) camera bags but they most usually pertain to full size SLRs.

I'm after something for a mirrorless camera (NEX6 specifically) and so hoping for something a little smaller. Enough to hold the camera with a zoom lens, another couple of lenses and a small space for bit'n'bobs like a spare battery, small charger, etc. Somewhere to fix a tripod would be nice too.

I prefer a sling but thinking that if the bag is small enough it could even be belt mounted. (In that case a tripod is obviously out. A belt mount would be great when hiking with a back pack as the full camera kit would always be on the ready without stopping.)

Any suggestions welcome.

    I use this one, http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007UNHEB8/ref=ox_sc_sfl_…

large enough for the nex-6 with kit lens plus pancake, or the cam with 1 zoom lens.

Many types of samsonite bag on this model, you can go far a bigger one if you need to.

    • Thanks zan.

That's close to the mark except that it really limits how the camera can be stored. I'd love to be able to just drop the camera in with the sel55-210 lens attached.

The next size up - the Varadero 100 DF - looks like it could just handle it but it'd be a super tight squeeze with any extra lens inside. Another 20% extra space would be perfect. The 140 Colt in the same range looks just right but seems unavailable.

  • How'd you go in your search? I'm looking for something similar though for a different camera and without considering a tripod. So far looked at a few models from Lowepro and Tamrac, so far I like the Tamrac Zuma 3.

    • I looked at a lot of camera bags but ran out of steam and ended up getting a $15 large, generic bum-bag from Walmart while in the USA. Turns out it was an excellent choice. Plenty of space for everything (except tripod of course) and more to spare. Not much padding but good enough for standard use. Did me very well over the last month on my USA trip including many day hikes.
