What makes it amazing?
Thanks to user 'Allan' for the comments below

Adjustability of the straps - allows for more comfortable fit
Padded straps and back - more comfortability

Organisational pockets - different sizes to organise alot of things - I use it to organise food bars, gels when hiking

Durability - quality materials allows for longer durability. Obviously if you constantly drag it on the ground it will tear/cause holes

Size - it's a decent enough size for a "daypack". Enough for daily activities/occasional hike. What can you fit?
I have notebooks/documents in the front pocket with pens/some light food.
The second pocket fits a 13" Samsung Notebook + random book/jacket or more food/DSLR when hiking (requires minimal case that just moulds the DSLR+lens and not full fledged case)
2 water bottles on the side
Jacket held by the strings at the front
Phone and wallet in the very front pocket for ease of access.

Supposed lifetime warranty - I say supposed because I haven't had to use mine yet. Bag is a couple of years old been with me everywhere and still just like new. Only thing is needs a wipe down/clean every once in a while.

Your deals did not bring the boys to the yard

        • You're a Turd

    • Do you mean amazing in terms of price or the product itself?

      • -1

        Both!

  • +2

I've got this exact backpack and I paid regular price for it.

Why did I buy it? Because they offer a lifetime warranty against defects and I always have lots of stuff in my backpack so I needed something that could constantly handle having so much stuff in it without it breaking. Another reason why I bought it is because its a pretty comfy backpack to carry with a lot of stuff in it.

I would highly recommend it to anyone that keeps going through backpacks. I've only had mine for about 4 months now but its great, would highly recommend/10.

    • rambut, how much is the regular price you paid? you mean full price?

      • +1

Yes full price. I got mine from the North Face store in Melbourne CBD on Elizabeth street for $140. Same price as normally advertised on their website.

I've got the black version of this. Highly recommended.

Compared to US pricing at USD$89+postage - this is a bargain.

I appreciate you spending the time to go into more detail unlike Reubzy. But I still wouldn't exactly use the term amazing though. Features are very standard for a good travel pack.

  • Can any one confirm if this in fact a good deal? Excellent, Good, Ok, or a Bad deal?

    • +1

Definitely a good deal, these backpacks are excellent and you can rarely get them this cheap. After a quick search on ebay the cheapest I found was like $123 delivered and I doubt that Australian stockists would repair it for you if it broke because it would be sent from the US or the UK.

$89.10 is a great price for this backpack. Also a really good product, just look at the numerous reviews.

      Who is offering for $89.10?
Only the red one is for $99.

        ~facepalm~

        Thanks Rambutann, Reubzy & fattyboombatty.
Got too excited looking at the deal, couldn't see clear. Had to clean my glasses plus bang my head on the concrete wall just once to make things more clearer. Had to take my glasses off to make sure, I don't break them.
Received the 10% off promo code in the email when signed up and the code is TNFAUREG10

        Thanks.

To be fair - the title was edited after it was posted

        • +1

fattyboombatty is right. When I opened the page, the title was different. And my post came after few minutes and I believe the title was updated by the time I posted by comment.

  • there is one store near my office will check tonight hopefully still have online when i dedice haha
btw, would this be ok for overseas travelling (not backpacking, i still have luggage but this is for when walking around outside hotel). i would not bring laptop, but ipad, water, camera, etc etc

    • +3

I've personally used it in the snow in Japan and all around Australia. It's excellent as it's carry on size, has plenty of space, is extremely durable and looks great. I think this would definitely be ok for travelling as a day pack and a general use backpack.

      • +13

Ahhh, see there you go. Some good reasons why this backpack is "amazing". I think you're starting to get the hang of this communicating thing now. Thanks for the feedback. 8 )

    • Traveled all over hong kong with his backpack. The bag is waterproof, I carried my laptop, SLR and rain gear… worked perfectly as a travel bag

  • +1

I have a blue version of this and another TNF recon backpack. They have lasted since my uni days and now I use them daily for work purposes. Just check out reviews for them on outdoor sites… They are always highly rated.

    • +1

always heard North Face stuffs are good but never have because they are EXPENSIVE
always want to get the jacket…
      maybe start with this backpack

  • When exactly does the site show the reflected price with 10% off? I signed up, activated my account, logged in, and got to the "confirm order" step but it still shows my cart total as $99.00.

    • +1

You should have got a discount code in the activation email they sent you.

On the first page of the checkout you enter the code to get the discount.

    • +2

Someone mentioned a code so I guess you have to input that code somewhere.

      • Ah I'm blind. Thank you both for pointing it out.

North Face make great bags (and I own several - running pack & 2 duffles that I got from REI in the US), the Borealis is a great model - good laptop sleeve etc.

They are ridiculously over-priced at RRP locally here, so unfortunately the only way they are ever good value (as separate to being a good bag) is when they are heavily discounted (or purchased direct from the US like i did.)

I'd hunt around for specials from local retailers of TNF rather than give the distributor the money - True Alliance I think - the guys who do ben Sherman, lacoste, speedo etc. I've been to their outlet in alexandria. I think chains like Anaconda sell them, and a few other local independant stores (one big one in Perth, that sells a lot online I think) Pretty poor that they are now cutting out the local retailers by marketing/selling direct online with heavily discounted stock.. promo code or not.

I own this exact bag in the same colour. It is great. I paid $100 using an iconic coupon.

  • Has the price went back up?

    • nope. read all post here before screaming :)

      • Op Can you change the picture to show the bag that is available for this price

        • I don't think you can control that?

  • +2

What's people's opinion on whether the Borealis or the Hot Shot backpack is better?

  • -1

Greys not an option, out of stock! Red only. Nuts!

    • +2

Red/Grey is the colour, it's not red bags and grey bags

    • Red/Grey is the colour, it's not red bags and grey bags

Personally I think this qualify 'amazing':

Nothing special other than the brand name. Quality and feature wise, many backpacks from local brand Blackwolf is on par with this (if not better) at half the price, and also comes with life time warranty (defects in material and workmanship).

  • Thanks - picked one up online for $89.10. Have been looking around for a backpack as well!

  • How does this compare to the Hot Shot? Still same discounted price but with $10 higher original price

  • Would this fit a 15.6"? more specifically - http://www.logicalblueone.com.au/store/576-horize-w355ss-gam…

      yup

      Backpack dimensions :19” x 13.5”x 7.5” (48 cm x 34.5 cm x 18.5 cm)

  • I snowboarded with this backpack last year in a snow storm and very rough conditions for 4 hours
No water penetrated and worked perfectly as a counter balance / cushion :)

highly recommend North Face Bags… and at this price total bargain
My brother bought one in the US outlet store 2yrs ago for $70 aud

  • +1

Never tried these bags but can vouch for the brand High Sierra should people be on the look for decent backpacks in the future

Picked one up around 5 years ago and still going strong after regular use. I cram a lot of crap in there. Push it's to its capacity limits. Have yet to see a tear or signs of strain. Though saying that a lot can happen in production quality in that time…

I picked it up for $80 at a Perth myer.

Cheers for the heads up about this. Having a good quality backpack for those needing to use one. Worth paying that extra over something around half that price.

  • Code not working for me

Just bought one with this code. Make sure you are signed in when you apply this code.

  • TNFAUREG10 worked for me last night ok

  • Awesome! Needed a new backpack! Cheers!

  • +1

    just fyi.
they are processing this already so some will get shipped out today!
plus, if you not happy you can just bring it to the store and exchange (not to the lower value).

    • +1

      Exchange to other colours? :)

      • im happy with red actually after a rainbow colour one.
yes you can get other colours, when the price is more you pay the difference

  • My order was just cancelled and refunded due to no stock :(

    • When did you order?

      • Mine was cancelled too. Ordered around 9.40am this morning…

    • me TOO!

      • When did you order by the way?

  • The same thing, order cancelled due to a stock shortage. Frustrating to see that from the North Face, stock levels should be automatically checked at the checkout.

  • My Order got cancelled too :(

    ordered last night…

  • Here comes a reply from the manager:

"Unfortunately our website was unable to update quick enough as we had hundreds of orders for this bag placed over a 10 hour period, with up to 30 orders for the same bag coming through all within the same 2 minutes. This bag was posted on OZbargain, not by us as we have no affiliation with Ozbargain, and due to this we received an incredible amount of orders for this bag and our website could not cope with the demand."

I personally think this is a BS. Most likely, since the deal was posted at 8pm yesterday, there was no one from the North Face to check the actual stock levels until morning today. Then they saw the number of orders, compared it to the actual stock available and only after that updated the website.

    • Do they offer rain check? I ordered one as well but haven't received any cancellation email yet!

  • COTD has STM ranger 13" laptop backpack for $14.95 + shipping. It's kind of different styling, but definitely more feature and better value.

    https://www.catchoftheday.com.au/event/38510/product/stm-ran…

  • Surprisingly, the North Face does not even have a dedicated phone line that allows customers to hold to wait for someone to answer. It only has a fairly simple voicemail using only a default, pre-recorded, customizable greeting message, something like "[pre-recorded voice] Hello, [personalized recorded voice of customer service personnel] The North Face, [pre-recorded voice starts again] is not available, please leave a message after the tone…

Seems not right for such company that sells premium stuffs

  • Just received an email from North Face:

Your order has now been shipped and is on its way via Australia Post.

    Yeahhhhhhhhh, can't wait!

    • Received my bag yesterday.
