Samsung 28" 4K Monitor $749 @MSY

42

Wow, I have been waiting to see what would be released in the monitor space. Interesting to see a 4K monitor at the sub $1k price point.

Size: 28"
Resolution: 3840 x 2160
Response: 1ms GTG

As ozhunter has mentioned below, it's a TN panel.

    It has a TN panel.

Indeed - wait for an IPS one.

  • PCCG have been selling these for a while for the same price and as ozhunter says yes it's a TN panel, but that may appeal to some FPS gamers. I'm still more interested in the LG 34UM95 personally

    • Interesting… sort of like two FHD monitors stuck together (3840 across) with a little extra height at 1440 pixels high.

$1,299 RRP but several places are selling for up to $1,400.

      • I think stock has been hard to get so availability has dictated price over rrp, I don't think it gets officially released until the end of the month anyway

Yeah, the Sammy 28" 4K is okay… I personally think it's too small for 4K, my eyesight ain't what it used to be though so I'd rather 34-38" in a 16:9/16:10 4K monitor. It's also TN panel 1st gen which feels a little dated to me.

The LG 34UM95, I only discovered recently through mention on OB (actually on the previous Sammy 28" 4K deal lol) is much MUCH more interesting to me. Sure it's pricey but it'll bring me back to single monitor for the first time in, gosh, 12 years I think. They market it as being almost 4 x A4 screens worth, but I think I'll treat it as 3 x A4 for my work (my eyesight and all). Brilliant looking monitor.

normal-sized 4K and bigger-sized resolution monitors serve different purposes. Former, to increase render quality (not quantity), latter, increase screen real-estate (ie. quantity).
34UM95 has ~110 ppi - insignificant improvement from standard 80.

      • case in point, the ipad mini retina 7.9 inch with 2560x1600 res is 'easier' on the eyes than the non retina 7.9 inch 1024x768 res

Give these Amazon.com reviews a look over before purchasing, make sure you know all the good and bad things people have to say about it.

I was kinda keen to start with but won't be going near it now.

$749 seems to be a pretty standard price too, most places have it for that or less except for a couple which must have gold or platinum plated versions :/

  • Also worth keeping in mind that it doesn't have a Vesa mount so you are stuck with the stand it comes with

  • This is the normal price?

It's beaten. Harvey Norman is selling this monitor for $748

Yes, HN is cheaper…..for the first time?

    • I'd argue you could probably negotiate a better price with HN in person too, whereas MSY don't negotiate to my knowledge?

Do blurays benefits from these 4k monitors?
Do any games support these resolution natively?

    • +3

Unless youre scaling up no. Most PC games handle 4k resolutions fine, the question is whether your graphics card can or not.

      • not too mention the lower refresh rate due to current connectivity limitations

    RRP is not a bargain

PCCaseGear has it for the same price.
