Note: Link and description from scorptec website, could not find on crappy officeworks site:

The DIR-505 All-in-one Mobile Companion is a portable plug-in router that lets you share your Internet connection and your files all from a compact device that fits in your pocket. Tiny yet versatile, it gives you all the functionality of a router, access point, wireless repeater, and network storage drive in a device that fits in the palm of your hand.

Multiple Modes for All Your Needs

The All-in-one Mobile Companion features multiple wireless modes, allowing it to adapt to any situation. Router Mode shares your broadband Internet connection wirelessly; just connect it to your cable or DSL modem to provide high-speed Internet access for an entire home or office. AP Mode lets you create a private wireless network instantly, making it perfect for sharing files during business meetings. Repeater Mode extends an existing wireless network, so you can place them anywhere in your home to extend the range of your existing wireless network.

Wi-Fi Hot Spot mode lets you share an Internet connection coming from a wireless hotspot. This lets you share a wireless connection at a hotel or café with all your devices. Additionally, Repeater Mode and Wi-Fi Hot Spot Mode let you connect any device with an Ethernet port, enabling it to connect to your network wirelessly. Connect an Xbox 360® or smart TV to a DIR-505 to give them the ability to connect to your router wirelessly while extending your home’s wireless coverage at the same time.

I am confused. You posted a deal to be found at MSY? then linked to Scorptec?? and then say you couldn't find link at officeworks???

I think the product is on clearance at OfficeWorks, so not on their website … Scorptec and MSY are decoys!!

    Where is this $25??

Staticice says the price is $39 at a bunch of places including MSY and Scorptec.
And Officeworks don't stock this product…

Get yourself a TPLink 703N and OpenWRT it !

I totally agree. The advantage of the TP-Link range is that it powered off USB so there are many more options for running the device. Plus many of the models include a USB port for a USB 3G/4G modem which provides even more flexibility.

      • I'm the opposite - I prefer this model as it's a direct plug into the wall - no extra adaptor or nearby laptop required.

Reason being: quite often I'm at client sites, with no wireless (strange, I know!) and no available port near where I need to work. This device would be literally a plug'n'play setup, just have to find an available data point close to a power outlet.

  • Handy for anyone who wants to use a Chromecast on the TV in a hotel… might pick one up just for that.

    • I couldn't get this work last time I tried, the hotel probably had a weird gateway (sign in was required).

I'm confused. Isn't that pic from Officeworks?. What's that got to do with MSY?.

    • I could be wrong, but I think the OP was saying:
"Device on sale at Officeworks for $25 (as shown in picture), it's a bargain because they're $39 at MSY"

Confusing title, but a good price. Officeworks' normal price is $60 on their website.

  • How many are in stock at Braddon? I'm closeby so I may actually buy it at that price.

  • FYI, you can run OpenWRT on this. Look here for how-to. https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=230861#p230861.

Once on OpenWRT, you should be able to reconfigure the USB port to accept a 3G dongle/modem (howto here http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/recipes/3gdongle).
