I don't need a 3D or smart TV.
I have PS3, apple TV and chromecast that I use for smart features.My room is bright and I mostly watch Bluray movies.
If you're adamant it has to be both 55" and LED, you're pretty much going to have to go for a no-name/cheap brand like Kogan, Soniq, TCL etc to keep it under $1000. Anything else on clearance is likely to be closer to $1250+.
Without those restrictions, you could easily pick up a large plasma (51" Samsung FullHD is $900 sticker price Dick Smith, and you could probably haggle a Panasonic 50 down considering its $1049 online) or, I'd imagine, a smaller LCD.

id probably give this a crack if i was in the market. only downside it doesn't ship until 19th of june. not to sure on any unbiased reviews of it. but it's 55" 4K for 999 plus delivery. i seen some pretty good deals on larger brand name plasmas (60") and some smaller brand name leds(50")on here for the price your willing to spend. have a search through previous deals so you know what your looking at. alternatively there will be some sales starting soon in around 1 month for the EOFY so there could be some even better deals then.

Your better off getting a smaller TV if your budget is only 1K
Also do u need 3D, Smart TV? What you going to be watching on it?
How bright is the room? What viewing angle and distance to the TV are you guys?
