Rear bike light

I am a Roadie and I have been using a Moon Comet light set on my bike. Great little lights but with a full charge they seem to last a little over 2 hours. As I am getting fitter and taking on longer rides 2 hrs of battery life no longer seems enough. I rode 65Km through the Dandenongs in the rain on the weekend and when I got back the lights were flat. Not sure how long they were off but realistically, I am probably only going to want to ride longer not shorter.

In keeping with the roadie way, I would need something minimalistic, preferably USB rechargable that will last longer than 2.5 hrs on a full charge. Obviously being bright with eye catching flash patters goes without saying.

I would probably get a new front light as well, caveat there being that I need it for warning only, I am probably not going to ride at night. I dont need any of the 1000 Lumen MTB rigs with seperate Battery packs etc, just a flasher to go on the handlebars that will last longer than 2.5 hrs. Once again, preferably USB rechargable.

Been looking at Knog Blinder but gets mixed reviews and not sure how long it lasts.

    cygolite hotshot 2W

seems to be the best bang for buck/brightness/battery usage rear light available.

around 16 hrs for a standard flashing mode. you can adjust the speed of flashing to conserve battery. i think ridiculously fast strobe is unnecessary and if you cause someone to have a seizure chances are they actually might run into you.

waterproofing isnt great and i had to open it up and use some circuit board spray cleaner to get it working properly again (bunnings). since then no issues. if you're not willing to do that, there is warranty of course.

  • +1 for the Cygolite - best rear light I've used, and lasts forever in a flashing mode.

I had a Cygolite Expillion up front for a long while, another nice piece of kit, I'd recommend it. Only stopped using it because I prefer the appearance of a lower-profile unit with a separate battery pack.

  • Considerably more expensive but sporting a built in camera for recording cars as they drive by in case you are hit. http://fly6.com/product/fly6/
