Cash out on WISH giftcards?

Hey all, quick question:

Recently became an RAC member and have bought some Woolworths WISH gift cards at 5% discount. Used it to buy petrol and when I paid was offered cash-out with the transaction.

I didn't think this was allowed with gift-cards (otherwise why wouldn't I just buy a $500 gift card at discount and then withdraw the full value for free money?)

I'm close to 100% sure that you can't do that(maybe the teller stuffed up)

5.5 WISH Gift Cards cannot be refunded or used to obtain cash. You cannot use your WISH Gift Card to make a credit card payment, to load a Woolworths Everyday Money Prepaid MasterCard, Woolworths Everyday Money Reloadable Prepaid MasterCard or other transaction account deposits. Resale of WISH Gift Cards is strictly prohibited, except with our prior written consent. If approved, Gift Cards cannot be resold for more than the original purchase price. WISH Gift Cards that are resold in breach of this clause 5.5 will be invalid with the result that purchasers of those cards will not be able to use or redeem unspent value on their WISH Gift Cards.

You can't do that. The person serving you didn't realise it was a gift card and has to ask everyone if they want cash out, if they tried to put it through it wouldn't have worked.

Yep, this happened to me before. I was like cool, yeah cash out please. Didn't work. It always asks because they assume credit/debit card, but it doesn't work. Otherwise we'd all be filthy rich by now :P

  • Thanks folks. Never hurts to ask first :)
