FREE Google Docs & Google Sheets for Android & iOS (Launched Today)

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Google has resurrected standalone mobile apps for Google Docs and Google Sheets today, two years after folding the services into Google Drive.

The new Docs and Sheets apps for Android and iOS are available now on Google Play and in the App Store with a Google Slides app for presentations "coming soon," Google said.

The new apps make it easier for people who use only specific file types to find them, but the change also introduces broad offline support for both Docs and Sheets. You can still access your Docs and Sheets from Drive as well.

Their reintroduction adds a third method by which people can get to their Google Drive-hosted documents and files. In addition to Google Drive, and the new Google Docs and Sheets apps, Google users have QuickOffice. QuickOffice is a bit more business oriented, as it combines Google Drive access with the ability to open Microsoft Office files, though you can do that with most Microsoft Office files in Google Drive, too.

this post is more of a public service announcement than an actual deal IMO and should belong in the forums.

  • How is the introduction of Google Docs and Google Sheets different from QuickOffice? What is the stand out feature of these apps that would make me want to install and use them over QuickOffice or any other office suite on Android?

If you are after the full Office experience on Android and you have a bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse at your leisure, then use this instead:

    Most featured to date.

    • Hm, I never came across this in my Office searches. Looks pretty good and apparently supports Macros? Will have to give it a go. No Docx or xlsx export support though which is a shame…
OfficeSuite is the best I've tried, but it's pricey if you don't get in on sale.

      • Yes it supports Macro's as it is basically Open Office for Android.

      • It allows you to import Docx and Xlsx files but you'd probably have to save them as Doc and Xls files after making changes.

  • How is this a deal? Has anyone ever paid for these google apps? Belongs in forums IMO.
