Limitation

I'm very curious on what a person would do. Consider a hypothetical situation where you are deserted, no family, no friends. You've got $60, no job. How would you turn that $60 into a large sum?

Assuming you have nothing but the clothes your currently wearing and three crisp $20 notes:

$15 towards some clothes at lifeline, trousers, shoes and a button up shirt.
$30 for two nights at a backpackers, after that try to pick up free accomodation at said backpackers by taking one of their in house cleaning jobs. Generally you get free accom for about 4/5hrs work a day.
$15 for some very basic food (I'm thinking rice and beans + veg to last a few days).

Start hitting the pavement looking for a job. If you approach enough business your bound to land something eventually. You couldn't be picky, take what you can get and start saving cash.

Edit: Or just put it on black at the casino…

That sounds very familiar. My friend and I found ourselves in a strange city where our clothes didn't fit. So we legged it up a fire escape and "borrowed some clothes" and a beanie to cover my friend's pointy ears. On the race from the police we ducked into a filthy old basement to hide out, when the proprietor of the building came upon us, took pity and put us to work in her soup kitchen. We soon had a steady job working a number of hours a day at the soup kitchen and my pointy eared friend used his spare money buying electronic gizmos, but he could not find one thing he needed. Then a friend arrived, who had been in a drug induced stupor and we ran to greet him, but stopped him from saving the soup kitchen lady from being run over in the road. It seems like forever since we were in that city.
