66% off Prison Architect. USD$10.19 [STEAM][ALPHA]

100

Cheapest price ever.

$10.39 on my 28 degrees card.

Build and Manage A Maximum Security Prison.

Prison Architect is the world's latest Prison Management Sim. Starting with an empty plot of land you must construct a holding cell with basic water and electricity to house your first batch of prisoners, to buy you enough time to create a proper cell block. You'll need to hire some guards, get some showers built and unless the kitchen is up and running with chefs working away you're going to end up with a riot on your hands. From there you take your prison in which-ever direction you like. A monsterous super-max or comfortable center for rehabilitation, the choice is up to you.

Still in development.

Prison Architect is currently in Alpha, which means we haven't finished it yet - it's full of bugs and glitches and you're not going to get a polished experience if you buy it at the moment. What you will get is early access to a bullfrog-style Prison Management Sim that over 30,000 gamers have already thought is worth a look at.

$10.19 for a game in alpha stage?

Only EA can get away with such things.

  • Awesome cheers I have been waiting for a deal on this

Outsouring the tedious product test phase to the mass and actually reaping profit from it… Have to applaud this new business model!

Has been happening for many years now. At least they have the decency to label it as Alpha. I can think of many other games that were as good as Alpha releases, released as full games.

      • Alien Colonial Marines :(

I personally have no interest in buying unfinished products… but what really bothers me about this model is that the developers then seem to lose motivation to actually finish the game and it ends up staying Alpha/Beta forever (or for far too long).

      • Outsouring the tedious product test phase to the mass and actually reaping profit from it… Have to applaud this new business model!

You can thank Notch and Minecraft for this. He was probably the pioneer for this sort of model.

  • the game has been reviewed by Goodgame about a year ago in alpha and it is STILL in Alpha (not even Beta) a year later
shows how SLOW the development process is or how low the resource the team has.
great concept as a game sounds promising however.
However, this is the future of game development for independent developers.

  • This sounds appealing: Buy Prison Architect Name in Game version $16.99 USD
Gonna make my own character who pi$$ed himself nightly and eats his own excrement when nervous.

  • "Rust" is in Alpha (Only came out dec last year I think) and has sold Millions copies and is actually a great game. Can't comment on this game though.

  • It's a fun game, but it's been in alpha for over a year now.

That does not bode well, and it certainly should dissuade you from spending $10 on it.

    • Its a fun game. It's $10. Why would the fact it's been in Alpha for over a year matter?
Whats your reasoning behind this outlandish statement?

      • +2

Oh I dont know - maybe like the fact its full of bugs and whatnot?

  • The game concept sounds fun! However Will wait for the finished version.

  • It is a fantastic game, even in alpha. Highly recommended to those who enjoy a good, proper sim game. It it's not stats heavy, but has a lot of system interdependencies that well see you start again, again and again. Love it.

  • I'd love to give this a go, being a big bullfrog theme fan from way back but I'm just not prepared to throw money away at games that are not finished yet.

Unless of course it gets humblely bundled.

  • So if I want to name my prisoners I'd have to but the name in game version? It would be good to name more than 1 prisoner? I had a few names come to mind.

    • It's totally pointless. They leave or die every couple of hours. No doubt you would feel ripped off if you paid for this feature. Kind of like naming one building in simcity.

  • For those worried that it's unfinished and or unplayable. It appears that new content is being added often and may not be buggy enough to be a frustration.

    Taken from steam forum:

"The developer keeps adding new and exciting changes.. its a good thing it is staying in alpha
game is fully playable and enjoyable
Supporting games in alpha isn't always a smart bet, prison architect is an exception"

    • In my experience they could have released it by now. I'd happily pay $20 as it is. They seem to be using the early revenue to make a much deeper, more complex game.

      • It's a great game, I've played it heaps but I personally disagree with it being anywhere near releasable as a complete product. It's lacking in objectives or any sort of endgame content, and is far too CPU resource intensive at this point.

        • Pretty sure is an overall objective and now fail points as of update 20.

        • Depends on your preference I guess. I'm comfortable setting my own objetives, like getting to a sustainable model, or having a violence free prison.

  • Those who are interested may also like the movie Escape, a recent Prison Break like film.
