Help!! Best way to get wifi access in the UK - dongle?

I am visiting the UK from mid July to mi August and need to have internet access the whole time for work.
Can anyone recommend the most cost effective way to do this?
Thanks so much!

  • When i go to the UK i just get a pay as you go simcard from O2 etc. you can top this up as you go via phone or internet, quite a few packages available, you can choose amount of calls, texts and data etc. pick one up from an O2 shop is the easiest way. Have a look on their website.

  • Depending on where you fly through, many airports now have pre paid sim cards available in vending machines. I get them for whatever tablet I'm sporting at the time and bin them at the end of the trip.

Not sure which provider is cheapest these days as I left the uk a while ago now, but it always used to be '3'

  • When I was in the UK about a year ago, I purchased a 3 sim for data and used it with the vodafone pocket mifi and it worked fine. Cost was 10 pounds for 1G for 30 days. I also purchased a Lebara sim for my (dumb)phone as the call rates to Au were great.
Suppose you could get one sim for calls and data with tethering/hotspot but you will need your own research for that.

  • Thanks for your help. I should have mentioned that I need access for my laptop which has no sim. I think this means I need a dongle or something like that??

    • Either a cheap unlocked USB dongle, or Pocket Wifi etc. Or use your smartphone as tethering hotspot…

  • I use giffgaff.co.uk (Uses O2 network)
You can purchase different 30 day plans from GBP 5 to GBP 20. For example GBP 10 includes 1GB of data, unlimited texts and 500 UK minutes…
Sim can even be posted overseas for free. (PM for link)
