$2.50 per battery (excluding delivery) is getting pretty close to the cost of an eneloop AA, a battery that can be used hundreds of times (at least). $14.62 USD per 4-pack. http://www.amazon.com/eneloop-cycle-Pre-Charged-Rechargeable…

Or you can opt for the Eneloop USB charger with 2x AA batteries for $16.99 USD on amazon. Or you can get the 4-pack AA with basic eneloop charger for $18.35 USD, which is better value. A $1 AU travel adaptor from ebay can run it here, since the charger is world-voltage capable. There must be very limited uses for this battery where a rechargeable couldn't be substituted for it. Yes they are probably lighter. Yes, they last a while. But cost per charge? Seriously.

Eneloop batteries are known as low self-discharge, so they don't lose much of their charge when left unused or when used in low-current devices (remote controls, calculators, etc) and they cope with high-current applications (camera flashes, etc) exceedingly well, unlike some lithiums.

  • I use aa & aaa lithiums for long bushwalking trips. They are roughly half the weight and perform better in cold (freezing) temperatures.

But I use non-name lithiums, most recently form this ebay seller http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-EI-Lithium-AA-Batteries-1-5V-29… At $2 each or less, depending on how many you buy, its cheaper than the above deal
