Melbourne parking - Info needed

Hi Melbournians,

I have a question that I hope one of you will be able to help me with. I will be travelling to Melbourne at the end of May. I am thinking of renting a car from the airport because I believe the taxi fare will be about the same as renting a small hatchback for the day.

My question is, what is the parking fees like in Melbourne? I am thinking of either staying at Pegasus Apartments in A'Beckett street in the city or somewhere in St Kilda like the Cosmopolitan Hotel if free off-street parking is available in St Kilda.

Also, if you have any parking tips for me, that would be greatly appreciated as well.

One tip: Most of the secured parking places charges $5 for a whole day on weekends.But you need to check with place where you want to park.

Another tip is check the signs carefully, you can find some gem all day parking on weekends where on normal weekend its tow or loading zone.

there are not many, but read the signs carefully :)
