Samsung UA60F6400 vs Sony KDL60R550A

I see both are around the same 1600-1700 price points, I think both consume similar power… Just wondering which might be the better set for a 60" TV?

  • Might want to wait for 4K?
Price is going to come down in the next 2 years I think. By that time, you'll definitely have enough money for a 4K TV with the money that you've saved in that time.

    • Valid point, 4K would be nice and Kogan already have 50" under $1000. Though I'm moving house soon and want an immediate upgrade. My feeling is HDTV is good up to around 60", beyond that size I definitely would like 4K. In 2-3 years time you'd probably buy 4K in any size though.

Alternatively, I could buy something like the Bauhn 55" LED for $799, it's not quite 60" but also have the price.

End of the day I think I'd like a 60" in the near future though :)

My old Panasonic 50" Plasma just won't die, and it gets a real workout from the kids, but it's aging, it's not even full HD.

  • Samsung for the features, Sony for the colour, otherwise at this lower end they are more or less the same. If you do some gaming, Sony generally have the best latency time by a long shot.

    • You may have just put me in the Sony camp. I don't care about gaming, however nor do I care too much about features, in fact I don't care about 3D at all and little about Smart as I'm happy with my WDTV boxes.

Picture quality/colour and power usage were my main interests, the latter seem on par and I've read elsewhere to confirm your comment on colour, so Sony it is, unless there are cheaper-still units without 3D/Smart from Sony.

      • I own the Samsung and very happy with it so far…… that said the from the Sony TV's ive personally seen they tend to beat the others out in colour and latency like stated prior. Just remember whatever new TV you get turn off their specialised "motion" settings, they make using any new tv unbearable to watch……
