Recommended potting mix?

We ate planting citrus tree soon so wondering which potting mix we should buy - from where?

Comments

  • Assuming you are planting it in a pot - make sure it's a ceramic pot - and use a 50 50 potting mix / garden soil mix. Potting mixes dry out too quickly.

    • and also, your lawn trimmings place them on top of your soil mix. Prevents evaporation and keeps that soil nice, moist and wet. ;)

      • it also might cause nitrogen drawdown. compost the clippings first

  • Use any good quality, porous, mulched soil (not Woolies)and add some dynamic lifter and blood and bone.
If you're buying in bulk, be careful that the supplier guarantees that his mulch doesn't carry fungus , diseases and weeds which may damage your plant and retard growth.
If you are in Sydney, watch out for "leaf miner" this year. I had all new growth destroyed on a blood orange and a murcott earlier this year. If your leaves begin to curl…soak the plant in Pest Oil (white oil)…..good luck!

  • Bunnings has a good range of potting mixes. Hortico is good and doesn't dry out. Citrus need feeding and lots of sun - dynamic lifter as @Marble250 suggested is good.
